Network news could put this guy on the air during like Lester Holt or the Sunday shows but they don't because they know stories like this would help stop the administration and then the big bet they made on fascism would be for nothing

"They put me on suicide watch and they put me in the cell, I'm naked, in like a hospital dress and just a concrete bed with like a mattress, like a thin mattress and, they leave the light on 24/7."

@timmiller.bsky.social talked to a veteran who ICE wrongly detained and brutalized

Pretty Biden (appropriately) did some version of this when he switched out secret service in 2021. It's extremely important that blue state officials remember how many cops & military were at J6.

Yes, that's the clear subtext here. I'm sympathetic to the demand that he "just order the cops to do x, y, z," but not sure legally they have to answer to gov, and all mayors and govs know the cops are highly likely to back Trump

I want to thank the reporters (writers, camera people, everyone involved) who are doing their best to keep the public informed.

Yes. Also banned by the same order (1(h)): "Using force, such as pulling or shoving a person to the ground, tackling, or body slamming an individual who poses no immediate threat of physical harm to others, unless necessary and proportional to effectuate an apprehension and arrest"

Sure, they're getting the issue out there. And will hopefully add in some more rhetoric about the invasion of American cities. Some Senators are doing really well with this - like Tina Smith

Which is why some of us questioned the wisdom of this particular fight - R Congress doesn't care about their own constitutional power. They allow impoundment. Tariffs. Whatever Trump wants. I truly hope it works out for Democrats, that they protect subsidies and America realizes who saved them. But.

They don't care about people like them. They're in the in-club. In fact, they probably enjoy the pain this causes. Remember, the Log Cabin assholes, on Grennell's request, just made life miserable for a performer at the Kennedy Center. www.washingtonian.com/2025/09/23/l...

Staffers say center president Ric Grenell's office set aside passes for the group, which booed and heckled the musician.

That makes sense. I think the reason people don't think of Jim Crow is because this country is still, after all these years, largely ignorant and in denial about the horrific violence. And people like Lindsay Halligan still don't think *slavery* was a violent system

Presidents and governors shouldn't be able to deploy National Guard troops from one state to another if that state's governor objects.

That is common sense, and yet Republicans just blocked my amendment to stop this blatant abuse of power. Another shameful abdication of duty.

I can't imagine being in their shoes. They know they will be asked to compromise their oaths.

I suspect the 2028 R and D primaries will include several billionaires arguing that "government needs to be run like a business!" And America, if you fall for that again, my empathy well will probably run dry at last

bingo. that was the lesson of 'they're eating the cats, they're eating the dogs." Over 75 million people were cool with that, it was a permission slip to inflict life-destroying pain on The Bad People

It's hard, I've gone back and forth on this so many times. But the point stands - we might not have the levers to protect every person. When do we go to the mat for Latinos in this country? Will that always be "the next fight"? I hope not.
thewriteverdict.bsky.social
Yeah and this is really hard for people, which is why they're calling this discussion sociopathic. But none of us think this is fun, none of us want to be here. All paths basaically suck moving forward.

People say "a year from now there will be different things happening and we'll have another chance to fight..." Yeah. But folks, a year from now things will be dramatically worse if we don't challenge this government now in every possible way.
thewriteverdict.bsky.social
Yep. Because the American people tell pollsters they a) like D policies and b) want Rs to implement those policies. Guess what America, the answer is c) that won't happen.

You could be right. It's all such a profound betrayal of the rule of law.
