For my new Bluesky peeps, a new introduction. I currently write science fiction. My debut project, The Cluster Cycle, is a spare opera pentalogy featuring old stories with sci-fi twists. Enjoy!

#ScifiMonth2025 Day 24: Space horror. I...don't read it much, and I don't write it consciously. So here's one I read, and one I apparently wrote. Although screams are heard in both.

“It's both possible, and even necessary, to simultaneously enjoy media while also being critical of its more problematic or pernicious aspects" was such a simple message that was so thoroughly and viciously rejected, but i think many of you still need to learn it

#ScifiMonth2025 Day 22: My bookshelf. It's a right jumble of genres, but you'll see my sci-fi in there. I'm sure.

Over on Whatever today I confirm that, indeed, all those emails authors and other writers are getting promising access to readers and book clubs and such are 100% scams, share all the scam emails I got just this morning, and note why they are all awful and bad:

It’s hard to believe but the Auto Club family— mama Porsche & her now 7-month old kittens Ferrari, Mercedes, and Bentley— have had no applications. Not one for any of them. I guess the only way to protect cis women is… to make sure they get harassed as well as everyone else?? Real “only way to save the village was to destroy it” vibes. I already know two cis women who have been harassed in toilets for being tall (and way more trans women and men who get this daily).
“Under the new guidance, places such as hospital wards, gyms and leisure centres will reportedly be able to question transgender women over whether they should be using single-sex services based on how they look, their behaviour or concerns raised by others.”

Gender policing harms us all.

This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

#ScifiMonth2025 Day 20 (just in time): Since I've already dunked on Avatar, I'll give two...opinions; the rogue AI/VI/SI has been done to death and we should stop calling them AIs, and the Aeon Flux movie is actually one of the best mid-tier sci-fi stories of the 2000s.

Day 20: unpopular opinion time - get salty about tropes, stick up for SF you love but nobody else seems to, share that one character or plot choice you just can’t stand (but try to avoid spoilers) 😅 #ScifiMonth2025
