Indeed. Railway nationalisation doesn't have to be like this: not every nationalised railway is 'Germany in 2025' or 'the United Kingdom in 1994', but it's wild seeing the government actively go 'British Rail in 1989, here we come baby!'
"You know how British Rail was starved of investment because governments kept prices artificially low? And how privatisation has seen ridership increase with increased ticket prices underpinning much needed investment?

Well, we've nationalised it again, so we can go back to freezing ticket prices!"

this is in line with my belief that absolute numbers don't really matter all that much, the ratio between numbers is far more important
This is a crucial point. In the UK, the political debate about “how much should the minimum wage be” has become completely separated from “how many homes are we building”, “what are we doing in tax credits” - in that respect it is like immigration, where we just yell about numbers, uselessly.
In 2013 my monthly take home was about £1000, my rent £200, and I remember turning 25 so well because I could afford to go out without stress and have friends thanks to working tax credits. The vibes, for lots of people, have entirely disappeared.

“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”

Great question! Here are some facts to consider when making your argument:
• Temperature: Human body temperature is often stated as 36.5–37.5 °C. This is hotter than maximum daytime temperature for a majority of summer.
• Time: Days last 24 hours but humans

I highlighted this issue in my keynote on class in TV last week. Our TV channels can no longer afford to make ltd series at HETV budgets... so why not stop competing with streamers with endless resources and try making modest shows with more risk?

There'll be a lot of arguments in the coming weeks about whether this policy is workable, economic costs and legality etc.

It would be good to see mainstream politics argue first and foremost that it is morally repugnant to en masse uproot the lives and rights of potentially millions in the UK.
To remove indefinite leave to remain from people who already have it they'd have to dismantle our entire system of rights legislation and probably end judicial independence.

But they could do that with a majority. They've said they'd do that.

In the West there is this concept known as the Divine Right of Kings, which turned into the Divine Right of Capital.

No capital owner / politician will materially oppose Elon for the fascist rhetoric he spreads, because to punish him would be to admit that capital isn't divine.
Elon Musk can’t really believe this crap, can he? 🤨

fundamentally the problem is that if you think "hotels are where I stay on holiday and I like being on holiday so living in a hotel must be fun and it's not fair others get to do it and not me" then you have the intellectual reasoning of a little child and it's going to be hard to engage with you
