really feeling this lately. i've been wondering why i'm having SUCH a hard time with certain social and work skills that i used to be able to turn on as needed and/or convincingly fake.
There's a pretty great Tumblr post about this:

Happy Resistance Day.

We exist. We resist. We revitalize and tell the old stories.

Nonhelema & the Moravian Lenapes spent too long being erased and forgotten.

It's a good day to be Indigenous

so glad I shared this story w/ @margaret.bsky.social and that she told it to @jamieloftus.bsky.social
New Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff

Margaret continues her talk with Jamie Loftus about Shawnee resistance to the American colonialism and a woman who led them in battle.

I was at the ER the night before Thanksgiving/early hours of Thanksgiving last year with a family member, and we overheard two doctors call that block of time "The Night of the Mandolines" due to the sheer number of sharps injuries during meal prep.

This is a very good and important thread
THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

Check below if you live somewhere with snow/ice & want to deal with icy walkways environmentally consciously & cost-effectively.

TL;DR:

Salt & other chemical alternatives are harmful to pets' paws as well as water/soil.
Cat litter additives harm water/soil.

1– Cherry stone grit (reusable!)
2–Sand
Environmentally conscious friends, what are your salt alternatives & advice for icy walks?
Icy sidewalks? Use salt sparingly. A good salt spread has each grain at about three inches apart.

Just a gentle reminder to save PDFs of the work you published this year especially in digital publications because you could look up one day and find that that pub doesn’t exist anymore and isn’t archived anywhere and is just gone

Ask me how I know!

I mention this because people are talking about people leaning on woo woo, and a lot of people think acupuncture is woo woo, and I thought it was woo woo and someone walked in and took a look at me and then put a needle in my arm and it stopped the flare up. Period.

But I see people saying shit like "well you have to trust--" and look, you don't.

And also, look, a lot of shit that we think is "woo woo" is in fact woo woo, but it's not all woo woo.

Anyway, I recognize that there is a lot of awful shit out there, but truly you have to understand that (a) Western medicine is not the be all and end all of the entire world and (b) we have some huge honking holes in our ability to treat people, and people are going to try everything they can.

yeah, I do not feel like I have the range to talk about the difference between White People WooWoo and western medicine being srs racist against knowledge from anywhere else, but I also think about that a lot

What I found profoundly affecting was when I was talking about how I try to take care of my goats when they're in labor and women started popping up in my Twitter mentions to say they wished they'd gotten care like that.
Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence
Influencers made millions pushing ‘wild’ births – now the Free Birth Society is linked to baby deaths around the world

Cows have rough tongues like a cat's but way longer and more prehensile. They can open locks/pens with them and steal stuff out of your pockets. A curious cow can get into a LOT of things with their tongue which is why cow-proofing things is important in science ^^ But it's also adorable 🥰
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share

You don't necessarily need to say "image of" in your alt text for users to know it's an image. Screen readers will announce that it's an image. But it can help readers to specify if it's a hand-drawn image, Polaroid, infographic, screenshot, chart, map, diagram, or so on.
