A lot of Best Of lists are now out or on their way. Congrats to you all. It’s an accomplishment I hope every writer gets to experience at one time or another. Not everyone will, though, and to those writers, know I see you too. Keep telling your stories. Regardless of lists, the world needs them.

“We can pay for passage,” Zedenko said, clenching his fists, “but no one gets to mess with my friends.” His voice shook. Jorang noticed that the men and women of the crew all wore patches over one eye or the other. Many also had one hand replaced with a hook, several had wooden pegs in place of a leg, and one had a peg in place of a hand. The sailors were all armed with cutlasses, as well, and more of them were coming up from belowdecks. Jorang slowly put his own hands on his belt. “You’ll pay, all right,” another of the sailors said, and the crew drew their blades as one. In the instant before Jorang moved to attack, a voice said, “Here’s the captain!” The first sailor who had spoken to them came running back from the cabin. Behind him walked a dark-bearded man of middle years. His peg leg rapped against the wooden deck as he walked, a large hook took the place of his left hand, his right eye was covered with a patch, and a brightly-colored parrot rode on his shoulder. The parrot had a patch over one eye, a peg for one foot, and a hook at the end of one wing. Prax hissed at it.

Gallara's nigh-encyclopedic knowledge of plants includes a dangerous parasite called garroteweed. It's not a misnomer.
“You do know how to handle the garroteweed, right?” Zedenko asked. “You never said you did.” She would have given him a much nastier look if he hadn’t technically been right. “It’s a parasite that grows extensive root systems primarily inside the bark of deciduous trees, but it can also attach to the roots of other plants and the moss on rocks. It releases seeds into the wind in autumn, which take hold in other plants and develop their own root systems over the winter; the sprouts break out in early spring and are mobile enough to grab things almost immediately, but not strong enough to actually harm you until early summer. They absorb the blood of the animals they kill through the abraded skin, so they prefer furless creatures like the civilized races and goblins. The variety with narrow leaves has short thorns to tear the skin open and draw blood more easily. The variety with broad leaves just has a raspy texture and secretes a muscle-numbing toxin that takes effect before your lungs even hurt from strangulation; it can be roughly neutralized with rock heather or lorg weed, but it barely lasts a quarter of a day, anyway. Broken animal bones can be an indicator that garroteweed is close, although scavengers tend to drag dead bodies at least a little ways away from the garroteweed so they don’t get killed while they eat.” The priests smiled. Zedenko didn’t. “Okay, fine.”

Her money had barely touched the barkeep’s counter before she was bolting up the tavern’s stairs, room key in her teeth and Taraltos’ hand in hers, with the elf eagerly sprinting to keep up. Their room door slammed shut behind them, and Grinks leaped into Taraltos’ arms, wrapping her legs around him and kissing him with every bit as much enthusiasm as his. Their tongues wound around each other as Taraltos squeezed the ass he had so admired, with Grinks grinding every inch of herself against him. At last she broke the kiss and leaned back a little, her arms and legs still tight around his body. “Sorry if I seem a little forward,” she grinned, breathing harder than she had after her escape from the guards. “Getting away with something always makes me horny. Not that you need the help.”

Gallara is the best Fool. Her whole character arc is being outside of her comfort zone and growing as a person on an undesired journey. She also makes plenty of mistakes and tries to learn from ... most of them.

As Drohim's squire, Seff gets a cot in a tiny private room at the temple of the Many. Drohim gets a modest but comfortable set of rooms - pretty much a small apartment - and keeps it clean and orderly. They're on the road now, though.

The Prophecies duology satirizes lots of tropes from video games and other media. This reference to games like Legend of Zelda that lock you in a room with the boss monster as soon as you enter, doesn't actually factor into the scene or the plot; it was just amusing for me to include.
As Jorang and his allies entered the room, the doors somehow swung closed behind them, and locked with an audible click.

Interactive games are a way to immerse the player in a story and let them help determine the outcome. Board games like Mansions of Madness and roleplaying video games are terrific for this.
I also see TTRPGs as collaborative storytelling between the GM and the players, with lots of improv.

Seff's story would be an open-world action-horror game with puzzles and clues to follow.

Prophecies (the one with Gallara, et al) would be more like a JRPG (the story throws some satire at the genre already). It would be more lighthearted than Seff's and keep the story's Easter egg jokes.
