🥚 We live in barbarism.

No abortion, health insurance, or affordable childcare for you but please feel free, young lady, to endure a pregnancy, risk your life in childbirth, and throw your baby in a box so rich people can have it.

I find this common Christian analogy of adopting children to being “adopted” by God so repellent it leaves me nauseated. To complete the analogy means to see the severance of the child’s original family as a divine punishment for sin. Whose sin? 🥚

When I was in my 20s I had a baby face that could pass for 15. I lived in NYC and I was out once with a new friend from work when I was invited to a party by another young woman who said she was a John Casablanca “Model Scout“. 1/

Is it racist to bar visas for international adoption *only* for Black/brown children?

Yes.

Is it racist for an industry to move children from the global south to mostly white homes, stripping them of their family, culture, language and even the right to know who they are?

Also Yes.

the proposed $5000 tax credit for adopters would, in the words of too many birth mothers, have made the difference between relinquishing and keeping their own children.

i don’t think people understand the interconnection of the #adoption industry, child welfare systems, and the manufacturing of orphanhood. the overwhelmingly predominant cause children’s loss of family is not death but the state. most adoptees are people whose parents are dead *in law only.*

I am truly confused by this. Disney once sued at daycare center into oblivion for drawing Disney characters on their wall, and now they are being fed into the slop machine?
NEW - Disney and OpenAI have struck a new three-year deal letting Sora generate short, fan-prompted social videos featuring 200+ characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars.

there’s a lot of irony around how writing a genuinely good prompt for LLMs requires the exact kind of clarity and precision in communication that is taught by good (human) writing instructors - who have now almost all been laid off by college admins

Who wants a medieval story time on the first autobiographer in English? She preached and led pilgrimages, but mostly she was known for weeping really loudly and publicly and making churchmen uncomfortable. Oh, she also had 14 kids and left them and her husband to go traveling (super popular choice).

It's an actual game plan on the right. They use it for book bans as well. They start with something easy: no porn in libraries. That hooks in the low information folks. Then you slowly broaden the scope until you're yanking any YA that violates Christian nationalism.
one of many parallels between anti-vaxxers & those who oppose gender-affirming care: they start by pretending they have a very specific concern (MMR vaccine, puberty blockers, etc), but once given any sway or say on the matter, they quickly strive to eliminate all of it
Kennedy's zombie ACIP panel just voted to restrict hepatitis B vaccine for newborns. Experts say it will harm children for no reason. www.ms.now/news/rfk-cdc...

ACIP member Dr. Cody Meissner:

"'Do no harm' is a moral imperative. We are doing harm by changing this wording. And I vote no."
