I don't know if ppl under 30 even know about the quilt. That was such a BRILLIANT tangible display of how many ppl were lost. You know how covid deaths are still so unbelievable to most ppl bevause thwy cant SEE whos gone? A quilt makes that impossible. Traveling w portions of it was also brilliant.
My uncle, Douglas Colesworthy, on the AIDS Memorial Quilt. He died in 1987. Silence = death.

I’m still kind of gobsmacked by the way so many people convinced themselves that reparations was some ridiculous thing TNC made up to trip up their favorite candidate.
6) Rosa Parks wasn't meek. A lifelong believer in self defense, her politics were expansive. She loved Martin & Malcolm & Stokely, Ella Baker & Queen Mother Moore, fought for reparations, Black history in every curriculum, prisoner defense, welfare rights—"any move to show we are dissatisfied."

I think a big thing I struggle with, and something that is an important thing for people of my generation to attempt to understand, is separating toxic nostalgia from knowledge of the actual ways in which American life has gotten appreciably worse in my lifetime
