I'm starting to work with an artist for the paperback cover of Snowman, coming in June '26! Why am I just as much excited as when the book first came out?

A: Because he's amazing! LOL!

"Western editors, readers, and writers are too married to the three-act structure, to the type of storytelling that is driven by conflict, to that go-getter individualism. Please read more widely out of your comfort zone. A lot of great non-western stories do not hinge on these."

What is your horror movie trope that absolutely drives you bonkers?

For me, it's when a character's in a tense moment and another character puts a hand on their shoulder from behind. I mean, who touches someone before announcing their presence??? It's a jump scare that's never made any sense to me.

“Papa, can you fear me?”
Contemplating the baseline eroticism of Ratatouille now.
"I got dragged so much in my BFA program for using alternatives to 'said' that I still rarely, rarely use anything else," Walsh sighed.
"Damn right," he behemothed hoarsely.
Snowman: spruce, vetiver, and octenone
Absinthe & Iron Cages: Sampoerna clove menthol milds

What would *your* book smell like if you engaged in a mega weirdo scented pages promotional campaign?
Welp. Now I know what brain canisters smell like.
Just imagining salt water and ozone pulled me back into the world of Deep Roots!
Winter Tide: salt water and old books. Deep Roots: salt water and ozone. A Half-Built Garden: fresh-baked bread. The Sheltering Flame (coming October 30): sawdust and lavender.

I used to say there is not enough adult prose or graphic fiction about witches. Then I came to Blue Sky which has a world of independent/small press authors, artists, and creators that I had not been exposed to before. So... check this out. It looks fan freaking tastic!

Finally started reading Lucky Day by @chucktingle.bsky.social.
If you thought chapter 1 of Bury Your Gays was splatterific just wait until you get to chapter 2 of Lucky Day! It was completely unhinged, I love it!

I’m pissy and have 34 minutes before I can check in at my next place. Here’s another unsolicited list of advice for freelancers.
My mom used to have a picture of me having fallen asleep dressed up like Wonder Woman in a black halloween wig using a paper burger king crown as a tiara. Man, I wish I could find that!

#Superheroes
When you were a kid, what is the first superhero you pretended to be when you were playing?

I remember being Spider-Man a lot, specifically from Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.

I also had a yellow jacket that I would wear like a cape and pretend I was Robin.
I'm somehow supposed to pick between these two?
"You are welcome to our fires. Do you know the song?"
Fantasy trope gripe.

If you are an immortal talking head how are you talking if you don't have lungs? Vocal cords still need air to vibrate them!

I'm talking to you Orpheus and also Nick Chopper from The Tin Woodman of Oz. Also... *gestures at everyone on Futurama*

You got one that peeves you?

I honestly think they have no idea how to market anymore. All the marketing ppl who worked the old way, through handshakes and ad placement and Mad Men style relationship-building, are gone, replaced by social media managers who have no idea how to navigate the collapse of social media.

when I worked in an independent bookstore, the owner told me the most stolen book was one about getting your first period and if I saw anyone walking out with it, I should just let them go.
Okay, funny bookstore category
