I can't find a transcript, but Ta-Nehisi Coates had a good point imho the other day about like, not expecting your lifetime to be the good one and not fretting when it isn't. Something like that. How his ancestors weren't failures for not changing the world. (Heavily paraphrasing here.)

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

I guess I just don't know or care if we would. A pivot to ICE defund just won't work. Maybe a later fight. But right now it's "The ONLY reason you aren't getting paid is GOP hates your healthcare" and if we add more conditions, it destroys that message. We need that message and we can actually win

In this exact type of fight, the goal is to make Republicans look as bad to their voters as we can (which they are; it's not a hit job. They're bad!) but you have to press things that will do that. We're in the minority too hard to actually win everything we want to win in law. We need to win hearts

This is kinda why I don't understand how the "People have to suffer to understand" crowd has so many people who are mad about the shutdown.

The only conclusion I have is that those people are disingenuous, so I guess I don't have to listen to them.
