It's Mike. I wish I only talked about tabletop games, writing, and comic books (and tea), but politics keep happening. I like He/Him, and I like She/Her, and I don't like Twitter anymore.

dragging themselves through the Bluesky Poasts at dawn looking for an angry fix

It really is amazing that the president has a noticeable an unexplained physical ailment that is disfiguring his right hand and there's no reporting about it. The White House's line is that it's from Trump shaking too many hands! Something is clearly being covered up.

underlying problem with a lot of pop culture and society generally is that people stopped believing that duty is a real thing
Man, remember when star trek knew it was a show about adults in the navy doing their duty as best they could see how, through a deep sense of devotion to cause and morality
🚨 BREAKING - New Star Trek: #StarfleetAcademy Poster!

The first season of the new #StarTrek live-action series premieres January 15th on Paramount+

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

cool that the official position of the administration appears to be that black people don’t really count as americans
"The Donald Trump administration has changed which holidays qualify for free entrance to national parks, removing two holidays celebrating Black people and adding the president’s birthday."
National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people
Free entrance days at national parks no longer include MLK Day and Juneteenth.

“We had to kill the survivors in the water with a missile because they might flip the shards of the boat, continue to the US, and sell drugs” is not really any different than “We had to kill the entire village because the children might grow up and join the Vietcong,” except much less plausible

I don't feel schadenfreude often, but if some people On Here were to speak inelegantly and thread a needle poorly and their peers all turned on them and called them traitors all along, I might get a chuckle out of it.

Viewers/readers/players anticipating your plot twists in advance is GOOD ACTUALLY.

YOU DID A GOOD JOB WHY WOULD YOU RUIN IT. YOUR JOB ISN'T TO OUTSMART YOUR AUDIENCE. UNGUESSABLE PLOT TWISTS ARE BAD TWISTS.

sorry for the yelling but holy shit

First time in years having a classic stress dream (in which I have two jobs, but I don't remember the schedule of the second job, and I find out I've missed a ton of shifts and have been all-but fired)

Social scientists spent the last 50 years arguing that racism is still prevalent in US even if it's covert (racism w/ a veneer), unconscious (racism w/out intent), or systemic (racism w/out racists).

Along comes MAGA, which embraces gutter racism while claiming that teaching about racism is racist.
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."

I seem to remember talking to @eleanor.lockhart.contact about this phenomenon. This is one of my least favorite parts of social media in Current Year.
I would read an article about why all the craziest of the left has account names like "ScatGobbler69" and "PenisPisser".

These late 90s Simpsons episodes that my partner has been watching have this ... very specific joke style that keeps popping up

They say something super off-color and, frankly, wrong with what we know today, but just like *barely* hedge on it in a way that you know they know it's not cool.

I lifted my Amazon boycott some years ago, but I'm ready to go back if these fuckers stop playing nice with USPS.
WaPo - Amazon is preparing to expand its nationwide delivery network and end its partnership with the USPS. This could make the e-commerce goliath the country's most ubiquitous delivery service and wreak havoc on the postal service's long-term financial viability. wapo.st/448bb0v

Just dreamt I was writing and illustrating a comic about elves who get abducted by evil and have to find each-other, and wow, that felt really fucking good.

I don't think I have the patience for a project like that anymore, and every skill is rusty, but maybe for a 24 Hr Comic or something.

I’m a Jewish atheist, but I (still) donate to this church in Dedham, MA because years ago they fed me when I was hungry and nobody else cared. They continue to demonstrate a strong tradition of social justice work and I’m here for it. Way to go, St. Susanna’s!

I was going to post the names of some hot federal Democrats, but that seems (to me) really fucking weird? I might be a massive prude. But look -- they're out there!

I will never, ever forgive the Trump administration for corrupting and denaturing the entire concept of the federal government.
BREAKING NYT:

The Trump admin just fired eight immigration judges in New York City.

All the judges were dismissed from the immigration offices at 26 Federal Plaza — a building that houses the NYC headquarters of ICE and has become the epicenter of migrant arrests in the city.
