There's a reason his mom wrote that letter
i'm actually struck by how pete hegseth isn't just a cowardly man but a capital-c Coward. a guy who gets off on abusing and hurting people he thinks are weaker than him and then tries to run and hide when there might be consequences

Dead on the money here. Technology is not ideologically neutral
Wrecking young people's reading, writing & analytical skills during their formative years is an economic imperative for AI companies. For many of us who learned these things without AI, slop can't pass for news or entertainment. Destroying standards is essential to the industry's growth & survival.

Israel too?
Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, just introduced a bill to ban Americans from holding dual citizenship. The bill says that to “preserve the integrity of national citizenship, allegiance to the United States must be undivided.” It’s called the Exclusive Citizenship Act.

Before Trump, cite a unilateral action by the United States towards another nation for the acquisition of their resources?

I genuinely don't know what an English course is without these things
At this point, our intro comp/first-year English course has been so heavily revised, it no longer includes a novel, or "extended reading" of any kind, no "specialized" or "historical" reading, mostly in-class assignments, no research essay...and we are still seeing a 40-50% rate of AI misconduct.

It's the exact same feeling you get watching a stand up bomb
JD Vance: "How many of you really like turkey?"

Many soldiers raise their hands.

Vance: "You're all full of shit."

American Beauty is a trivially stupid movie and any dolt can understand it but even when they're approving these morons mistake depiction for endorsement.
MAN WHAT?

using kevin spacey for a comparison or example here is definitely… a choice

That is *not* what Lolita is about.
Interesting email here from Elisa New, Harvard professor and wife to Larry Summers, to Epstein, reflecting on Lolita.

"...it's about a man whose life is stamped forever by his impression of a young girl."

This is exactly why the primary process exists. We sniff out these issues early so we can jettison shitty candidates and run someone with a realistic shot. Get rid of this guy and move on.
A survey, conducted on behalf of the Democratic group EMILYs List and obtained by POLITICO, finds that most voters wouldn’t support Platner over Republican Sen. Susan Collins after learning of his past social media posts

EMILYs List poll: Platner will lose Maine Senate race
The Maine Senate race is all but a must-win for Democrats looking to take back the Senate.

I can only speak for myself but I know I've been absolutely baffled as to where the Republicans stand on the ACA. They've been so cagey and mysterious about their support of Obama's signature policy victory. I'm glad we'll finally have clarity on their heretofore ambiguous political position.
Kaine on why he thinks just getting a vote on healthcare is a win: "We're the minority party, but everybody will get to see who is standing for them when it comes to lowering their healthcare costs"

Again, one of Republican's core constituencies is car dealers. They will do anything to keep those people happy.

Board games
as the husband of a mahjong addict, dudes need to identify an activity that can be done relatively easily in groups with minimal financial commitment so they can get out of the house for 2-3 hours on a school night, have two beers, and shoot the shit with their buddies.

It won't be mahjong tho.
This is excellent, and great fun to read. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

Rand Paul cares about pot taxes more than Schumer cares about poor people getting healthcare.

It's not just that establishment Dems *don't mind* Nazi tattoos. They like that they have a way to sterilize fascist iconography and make space for candidates with Nazi sympathies because they think they need to "move to the center" and right now the center is, at best, fascist adjacent.
Yeah exactly this is the huge piece people keep forgetting about. This is an act to get elected and the fact that he's doubling and tripling down on "the Dem machine is after me" is nuts. All while talking to Jen fucking Psaki. Just say you don't mind Nazi tattoos and be done with it.
This is the tuition of Platner’s private boarding HS. He is a scion of wealth, like Eric and Don Jr.

It's a really a shame that we've gotten to the point where we judge political candidates for things they've said and done. We used to be a country.

Establishment Dems' best plan continues to be "make a time machine that only goes to 2008."
Li'l scoop at Semafor: A new report endorsed by Biden's former campaign manager, former DCCC chair Cheri Bustos, and other centrist Dems blames the party's broken brand on post-2012 left-wing language and ideas - not just "the groups" but adopted by whole party www.semafor.com/article/10/2...
Left-wing ideas have wrecked Democrats’ brand, new report warns
The center-left group Welcome relied on polling of hundreds of thousands of voters over six months for its findings, shared first with Semafor.

This guy is, again, a profoundly dishonest hack. Mamdani is not uniquely unpopular. He's a local candidate running a local campaign. People outside of New York don't know who he is, which is exactly what this dipshit's polling shows.
