Why suffer through the misery of flu if you don’t have to? Get your flu shot!
NY is having a bad flu season. More hospitalizations last week than any week on record.

Health authorities are encouraging everyone aged 6mo+ to get the flu vax (it's not too late).

Find a provider here: on.nyc.gov/getvaccinated. You can filter for sites where there's no cost for the uninsured.

It’s the 29th over here so… Happy 25th Anniversary G-Saviour! 🎉 The first, (and as of 2025 the last) live-action media set within a Gundam universe. And the first major US/Japanese studio collab in the franchise’s history.

this is the simple answer to people who keep saying NATO expansion matters. Sure, it matters because it presented an obstacle to Russian imperial ambitions. Putin didn't invade because he hated NATO expansion, he hated NATO expansion because he wanted to invade

No one has ever been able to adequately explain what Putin is meant to have thought NATO expansion would threaten him with, apart from limiting his expansionist ambitions.

"He was worried they'd invade Russia."

No he wasn't.

He just wasn't.

That's not a thing anyone thought might happen.

Enabled by UAE: “Between 30,000 and 100,000 people may have been killed in six weeks, with 60,000 as a plausible midpoint. That pace of killing would be unrivaled since the Rwanda genocide of 1994…the death toll in El Fasher in less than two months may be comparable to that in Gaza over two years.”

Here. I wrote about our new, totally not complete vaporware battleship that is definitely not a massive waste of resources.

I also have to wonder how much of this is just susceptibility to propaganda. I see this a lot when people talk about China and it’s clearly coming from other algorithmic apps.

I don't understand the point of this comment. Because from where I'm sitting, it is actually not a Good Thing for a world class university--situated in a democracy that is frequently at war, where a disproportionate number of future policy makers are educated--to NOT teach military history.
We don’t teach military history at Princeton.

For a while Jim McPherson and John Murrin did a great “war and society” course, but even then it was a seminar with a dozen students.
I don’t know how things are at Harvard, where Hankins is, but I can tell you that military history is popular, but not uniquely so, at my public university.

Vaping: you are sucking on a USB stick

Zyn: you have crippling online gambling debt

Smoking: an honest engagement of the death drive

Hot take: I would rather have smoking come back than whatever’s going on with vaping and Zyn. Smoking’s honest about what it is, constantly consuming nicotine in “safe” ways is lying to yourself about your crippling addiction.
With more actors, pop stars and other celebrities spotted unapologetically smoking, the cultural taboo against it shows signs of ebbing. That worries antismoking advocates. 🔗 on.wsj.com/49om2X4
