The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Naming someone is not doxxing. They aren’t undercover. They aren’t intelligence agents overseas. This is outrageous - we are supposed to be a free Republic and these people want an authoritarian police state. Lawsuits should be filed & ranking Dems in Congress should act.

seems like the kind of piece that should contain an acknowledgement that other people saw what this guy missed but no that isn't how establishment media types roll so it's just open contempt for people who saw clearly when he did not. welcome to the party, you don't have to be a dick about it.

The second amendment was never something they believed in. Just a talking point to keep power and control and now they don’t want anyone else to have that. FUCK ICE. Deport ICE to prison cells NOW!

The White House posted a digitally altered image showing a demonstrator involved in interrupting a church service in Minnesota last weekend crying as she was arrested on Thursday.

A previous version of the image, also posted by an official government account, showed her looking forward calmly.
White House Posts Altered Photo Showing Arrested Minnesota Protester Crying
The New York Times ran the image posted by Kristi Noem, the homeland security secretary, as well as the one posted by the White House through an A.I. detection system. It concluded that the White House’s version showed signs of manipulation.

One of the reasons I was on board with Mamdani from very early on was that he seemed to me, more than any other candidate, to be prepared to offer a roadmap for popular and institutional resistance to Trumpism on the municipal level.

Today is validating my optimism.

Meanwhile Disney is *paying* OpenAI $1B to use their data. This must be late- (end?) stage capitalism, right??
i know this is hardly a new take but isn’t it WILD that wikimedia has to ask for donations to keep itself afloat when every LLM in the world has been trained on wikipedia data?
This is my cyclical reminder that there's really only one consistently reliable source of info in the public record that isn't owned by right wing billionaires, who really want to put an end to it.

Please give at least the $2.75 minimum they request if you can.

people think “no ceiling” means “lets the rich keep getting richer” because it’s an idea taken from a venture capitalist by a party that has shown no stomach for reining in the worst excesses of 21st century capitalism. It’s not that people don’t know what it means. It’s that they do.
I think people are negatively reacting to the "no ceiling" part as shorthand for "let the rich get richer," though I don't think that's what's meant at all. It's an aspirational claim that *can* resonate with plenty of people. It's about opening up opportunity for everyone, which is good?

Lincoln was re-elected on a party platform saying "That foreign immigration, which in the past has added so much to the wealth, development of resources and increase of power to this nation, the asylum of the oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encouraged by a liberal and just policy."
They're not hiding it, folks—straight up neo-Nazi advertising, from the font to the language to the 11 stars for the Confederacy. Then you have the DHS openly using white nationalist language of "remigrate", which means ethnic cleansing.

This is who MAGA is now.
