I must prove to them that their own inner voice — the one we’re honing all semester — is more trustworthy than AI.

It’s a project of connecting students w/ their own humanity. Building & trusting their own muscles to run & dance when hopping in the AI golf cart seems not just easier, but *smarter.*

To me, this is one of the key aspects of generative AI's broader environmental, social and climate harm: it cannot exist in an efficient, lean and narrowly applied way.

It only ever looks like it "works" when it's brute-forced: just like Bitcoin. The harm is baked into its characteristics.
Artificial Intelligence Wants to Sell You Stuff While the World Burns
Meta is betting on generative AI for a new generation of aggressive advertising. It requires immense energy, much of which will likely come from fossil fuels.

This!!!
At what point do we publicly accept that NZ is deeply corrupt and the only reason why we don’t have a culture of direct payoffs and bribery (that we cite as the evidence for us not being corrupt) is because it’s not needed? The boys club gets what it wants through people playing their social roles.

NW busway consultations!

Really recommend going to one of the Busway consultation events. The staff are really friendly and patiently discussed all my very many objections!!

This is the way!
And their attitude - smash stuff under urgency, because we won't be in charge anymore - just highlights the need for an #OmnibusRepealBill to undo the damage.

Nothing this illegitimate regime has done can be allowed to stand. Revert it all on day one.

Tech companies have plenty of bad ideas they say will improve transportation — but the car remains a menace.

@brooklynspoke.bsky.social and @sgoodyear.bsky.social join @parismarx.com to discuss the many ways cars harm society and why that must change.

I think most people don't know this. Yes, we have more renewable, but fossil fuel use is still growing every year 🫠
It's now clear that Ed Miliband, bizarrely thinks we can "beat" climate change with more renewables. Renewables can be part of a solution, but it must involve phasing out fossil fuels, and general system change. Fossil fuel use is growing, despite renewables.

10. The freedoms we take for granted – political, economic, sexual, individual - were won through a combination of extraordinary struggle and extraordinary luck. There’s nothing “natural” or inevitable about them. They are in fact highly anomalous. And we won’t know what we’ve lost till it’s gone.

The most devastating of all the terrible things the coalition does, is its climate change denialism. Our government is totally in thrall to farmers and extractive businesses.

At every turn, the Government has opted for whatever would actually lead to more pollution and a warmer world – even if it costs more, jeopardises NZ’s reputation, overturns a campaign promise or clashes with the Government’s other priorities.

Criminals. Vandals.
The Govt quietly announced a loosening of climate rules at 8pm last night:
- Decoupling the ETS from Paris
- Shifting ETS resets to every 2 years
- Delaying the public sector target by 25 years
- Removing CCC advice from *before* emission reductions plans:

One of my favourite things about NZ politics is there's only two possible categories for ideas:

It'll never work here

&

We can definitely make it work despite it failing elsewhere

Natural conclusion: the police - the people responsible for enforcing the law - defrauded the government of millions of dollars by faking tests and lying about how many they'd done.

Gah, read and weep :(
I'm reading the new Social Sciences curriculum content and I wasn't prepared for how sad I would feel. We spent thousands of hours working with the previous iteration and the NZ history content and all that enthusiasm and excitement was just killed for something so bad.

This fascination with "Māori" parliamentary politics reveals how limited mainstream analysis is. Te Pāti Māori is one tactical engagement with one part of the Crown's apparatus, not the centre of Māori political life.

So far TODAY Israel has:

- bombed Gaza City
- bombed Khan Younis
- shot and killed five Palestinians in Gaza City
- refused to open the Rafah border crossing
- announced they would once more block aid

This is what a "ceasefire" with Israel looks like. This is what it has always looked like.

Exactly. No more private companies running elections!
… give it to the electoral commission, have it run like a general election, look at online options, more education and tools for councils and candidates, much better and more media coverage, a uniform voting method and some better accountability tools for candidates.
