Apparently I'm doing this -- my open letter to that open latter about AI in writing and publishing. I emerged from Hibernation Week to write it, so god only knows how much sense it makes. But at least a human wrote it, so that's nice.

Bonus: picture of my "cat," sweet baby Boomba.
My Open Letter To That Open Letter About AI In Writing And Publishing
The tl;dr before you get into this post is this: the SFWA came out, said that some AI usage was okay enough in books for the authors of those books to not to be disqualified from winning a Nebula a…

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

Chatted to my great uncle yesterday – a northern, working-class guy, not that political. I told him my job involved exposing Farage.

His first question was: “who funds him?”

Investigations into Farage’s donors can have a major impact on Reform’s support – as this research has already shown 👇
New research reveals the best attack lines to use against Reform
How to stop Farage...

As a 'rural' person who grew up with hunts as a regular presence, there's little more alienating than a bunch of sociopathic posh people on horseback descending upon your community with a pack of jittery hounds, in order to dismember a small woodland animal usually encountered in children's stories

Quite a lot can be explained by the plain fact that our leaders and their hangers on are *enraged* that they can’t send people to prison for doing things that aren’t illegal, and they see this as a very serious problem that needs to be resolved, urgently.

12YO girl signed up to do “stand up comedy” at the talent show. 13YO boy decided to heckle her. Teacher started to tell the boy to leave her alone, but the 12YO comedian said “no, no, let him go, this is the closest he’s ever going to get to having a conversation with a girl.”

This. Is. IMMORAL. it is *GASLIGHTING.* And far worse than garden-variety gaslighting, as the victim has much- reduced chances of ever *catching* you at it. It’s not about *them* feeling any better. It’s about YOU feeling better. Anyone who would do this to a relative has abandoned their humanity. 😡
The comments on this are all about how sweet it is and I feel insane. Using AI to make fake memories of your grandma with dementia and telling her they happened and then filming her reaction

The real reason to tax billionaires isn’t to let the government spend their money, it’s to prevent them from buying government and directing how they spend our money
Again we have to ask the question, does this act justify him having a substantial amount of control over society?

Should public health experts be having to humour his "just askin questions" and suck up to him for the slight chance of American healthcare improving because of this?
I will never get over that Mark Cuban became a billionaire because he sold his company in Yahoo’s most expensive acquisition at the height of the dot com bubble

AI has become the norm for students. Teachers are playing catch-up.
At a New York City training session, educators explored how artificial intelligence could support teaching while also discussing their concerns around the technology.

If we care about protecting women and children, we need to stop banging on about the ethnicity, colour or religion of the perpetrator.

A woman in Britain is far more likely to be attacked by a White man that she knows than a random “foreigner”.

We’re not protecting women by ignoring that!

British boys aren’t THE problem.

But preventing boys from turning into British MEN like Philip Young should be a priority

Preventing entitled Tory, Hooray Henry types who think a bit of workplace SA is a bit of a laugh - we all know the type - who end up treating their wives like this👇🏼
