The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

This is what Bari Weiss et al think "censorship" actually is; when subordinates criticize their superiors. That has been the bedrock of the entire "cancel culture" discourse in elite media; rage at the idea that students, women, journalists, interns, etc might be able to speak against the boss.
The CBS reporter who led the story calls pulling it a "political" decision.
"The decision was made after Bari Weiss, the new editor in chief of CBS News, requested numerous changes to the segment."

The lack of empirical evidence in the “anti-conservative bias in higher education” panic is really striking.

We’ve had more than a decade of elite consternation about this so-called crisis based on a handful of anecdotes.
Clear evidence that at universities conservatives don't face higher obstacles than liberals to establish student groups + invite outside speakers.

"These results fail to offer support for the view that conservative students encounter more difficulty in efforts to access campus resources."

There really truly is no opposition party in this country.
WELKER: Massie and Khanna say they are looking at options including impeachment and contempt for DOJ officials. Would you support those steps?

KAINE: I think that's premature

An aspect of Trump I never fully understand is no matter who you are, if you hitch yourself to him, ultimately it will go poorly for you. He'll dump you without a hesitation for his own needs. It will always be only to his benefit. Yet person after person keeps lining up to end up like Stefanik.
Stefanik expressed frustration that “Trump didn’t clear out her path and make it easy” for her get the Republican nomination, according to a New York GOP operative familiar with the situation.

The Republican also announced that she will not seek reelection to Congress next year.

Speak to any older white male, I'm talking 55 and above and all of them will tell you how their son or grandson was unjustly denied a job or entrance into their dream school, and how it was due to clearly less qualified minorities or women. They weyre clearly the best, no one could den it!
an interesting thing here is that while white men are not being systematically discriminated against, they are constantly *told* they're being discriminated against, which yeah probably still drives them to the hard right

all based on lies, but when has the right wing cared about *that*?

I don't know if there will be the kind of real justice all this deserves but I hope all these ghoulish men and women never enjoy full peace again. I hope everywhere they go from now until the day they die they get yelled at and denied services. That they know they are pariahs we all loathe.
Q: Do you stand by your statement from earlier this year that nobody has died from USAID cuts?

RUBIO: I'm very proud of the changes we've made in foreign aid

this is the unspoken but absolutely clear argument at hand.
That’s the thing man. If they are to be taken at their word the only takeaway is that there should be no black people in any job any other white person wants. One quick Google search for any of these jobs would show there are usually one or two minorities are best in a unit of 20 or 30 or more.
UAlbany, one of those, NY state universities, has been hovering around 4 percent tenure track Black faculty since ever. I am THE Black tenure track political scientists. These folks are just little liars.

Imagine the day every American politician doesn't reflexively act like our cities are awful.
Murphy: "We need to understand the choice we've made in this nation to subject our kids to daily exposure to violence is not just about what happens inside schools. For many kids in our violent urban neighborhoods, it's about trauma that's breaking their brains & causing them to be unable to learn"

A thing I find interesting about the GOPs refusal to reign in Trump particularly on the matter of Venezuela is they all may lie but ultimately they know the truth. You hear it from dems and reporters how off the record they say he's insane. So knowing that why do they trust him to do this?

Obviously a system where the leader forces the rest of the country to elect his own party is not in any real sense democratic.

But US elites are terrified of acknowledging the enormity of what's occurring in America. So instead, bizarrely, many pretend not to see what's happening at all.

After MTG lied about me for weeks, she said that she felt bad for my unborn child because he'd have me as a mother. Her rhetoric led to threats against my family.

No one, even her, should receive threats like those, but I'd like to see her own up to the role she played in creating them for others.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: "I sent those deaths threats directly to him in a text message & informed him of what his name calling & words were doing - it was a direct assassination threat on my son. And he was extremely - I won't repeat what he said - but it was extremely unkind. No sympathy. No care"

There is probably a candidate who might be able to preach to America that maybe they have a problem with mindless consumption and have it resonate as a real soul searching moment. The guy who shits on gold toilets I suspect is not that man.
Trump: "You can give up certain products. You could give up pencils. Because under the China policy, every child can get 37 pencils. They only need 1 or 2. They don't need that many. You always need steel. You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. 2 or 3 is nice. So we're doing things right."

A lot of the Democratic Party saw Obama getting pushback from business owners for "you didn't build that" as a bad thing, because all their friends are rich.

Hitting back with "well, you're a trust fund baby, got $1b in subsidies, underpaid your workers, etc" would've been good messaging

Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."
