So that horrible tweet of The Orange Asshole about Rob Reiner has been shoved into my timeline twice, by screenshotting. If I wanted to see what he was tweeting, I'd be following him. Please stop doing this.

Tonight I am celebrating my birthday. I spent the day indulging in two of my favorite things, Barbies and comic books, and the evening having a delicious meal with the people I love most. Not a bad way to turn 54.

Please stop shoving the Orange Asshole's face in my timeline for no reason. I really don't want to see it. No, not even to make fun of him or score some supposed point. Seeing his face is an instant "hide that post," no matter what.

Fun thread! 😄
everything is bonkers right now and we need a timeline cleanse. let’s play a game. if I handed you a blank check but you could ONLY spend it on an Advent calendar, what absurdly pricy collection of little treats are you buying yourself?

A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

The issue with “voter ID” isn’t the ID. It’s which IDs are allowed and who gets blocked. Gun licenses count but student IDs don’t. Tribal IDs don’t. Millions of eligible voters, seniors, students, low-income workers, get shut out. If it were about security, every gov-issued ID would count.

I get 11 - 13 if ones where I've only had a connecting flight through the airport count.

I was in Portland in July and had a lovely time. I even walked through what might be considered a sketchy neighborhood and never felt threatened. Even joked about finding an excuse to move there just so I could go to Powell's Books all the time!
There is nothing “war ravaged” in Portland. Just to be totally clear. It’s a normal American city. /1

Anyone who votes to end birthright citizenship as it is understood now, in defiance of clear law and the tradition they claim to value?

They are voting to create a permanent underclass of rightness, stateless people in the United States. They are voting to bring back slavery.

We will never defeat Trumpism in this country so long as we accept the idea that some kinds of people are not as good as others.

It's liberty and justice for all, all the way, for everyone, without a single asterisk.

You know what's crazy? There have been no op-eds or editorial statements in major newspapers this year calling on Trump to resign. None calling for his impeachment. None asking if he's medically fit to be in office. Not one in any major newspaper all year.

If you cannot wrestle with the bad things your country has done (and this goes for every country), you aren't a patriot, you aren't interested in history. You only want a fantasy.

I know it's unpopular to say but Trump's authoritarian consolidation is succeeding, mostly because of cowardly institutions. We're effectively past the point of no return and life will increasingly become dictated by Trump and the federal government. Democracy is lost for at least a generation.

They want to have their cake and eat it too - no trans women in "women's spaces" because they don't have the right "equipment" despite looking like women, but no trans men because they look like men despite having the right "equipment."

Service providers will be told to ask for birth certificates and interrogate service users to discover their "biological sex".

The guidance also ban trans men from female toilets on the basis that their presence would cause "alarm or distress".

I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.

How are we supposed to celebrate Independence Day after passing a bill that strips healthcare, security, and dignity from millions? What are we celebrating… Cowardice in Congress? Right-wing lies? Billionaires? Sick kids? Hospital closures? This isn’t freedom. It’s abandonment.

I have so much to be joyful and grateful about and it's hard to even think about any of it while we have our representatives laughing about torture and racism and ableism and anti-science and anti-knowledge and imprisoning people who protest for their rights.

Dark fucking times.
