I started The Germinator two year ago to give space to celebrate hesitation and contemplation. To recognize the inner voice that tells us why we should NOT do something that is uncertain and risky, yet for some, they eventually do it nonetheless, and become entrepreneurs (or entrepreneurial)

Today, we honour the 14 women whose lives were taken on December 6, 1989, and reflect on our shared responsibility to build communities rooted in equity, safety, and compassion.

It’s time for the NDP to tell the truth: we must get off fossil fuels fast—with no worker left behind.

Today I’m unveiling our Green New Deal: a plan to tackle both the climate and affordability crises by creating 1M good jobs, lowering bills, and building a new economy.

“Sometimes I think we do ourselves a disservice by calling such options ‘bold,’ when frankly they’re often just really pragmatic common sense given the real challenges that cities face. The truth is, we tend to think of them as ‘bold’ because not enough cities are doing them, even tho they should.”

Which brings us to a key point: this whole thing is a massive climate disinfo/denial boost.

That happens whether it gets built or not.

It signals new oil & gas is OK, and rolls back hard-won greenwashing laws. 18/22

Carney’s deal with Danielle Smith is the sellout of the century: scrapping climate legislation for a pipeline that will never be built.

We need powerlines, not pipelines. Our path is through climate leadership & building good jobs in the clean economy.

There is no political, economic or environmental case for even pretending to consider Northern Gateway pipeline.
Mark Carney has given a huge with to Danielle Smith while reviving the environmental conflicts of Stephen Harper.
This is a huge mistake.

The European Parliament m voted in favor of banning social media for people under the age of 16.

483 MEPs voted in favor while 92 voted against. If it becomes law, people will likely have to use IDs to log into their profiles, making anonymous accounts impossible.

We cannot let workers pay the price for getting Canada off oil & gas — and as NDP leader, I’ll ensure they don’t.

It’s Big Oil that’s sucked billions of dollars out of the ground in this country, and it’s Big Oil that must pay the price of getting us out of the mess that they've created for us all.

So 10% of the population account for 50% of the US personal spending??? Great reminder for how bad GDP is as measure for a country’s “success”
One of the reasons we need universal basic income plus higher taxes on the rich is to boost the spending power of the bottom 60% and in doing so, reorient our economy around the needs of the majority of people who comprise it. As inequality has increased, our economy has adjusted to meet rich wants.

Exactly this 👇🏻
The truth about these guys is that they want to make a tonne of money and kids being hurt is a price they‘re willing to pay for it. They want responsibility for protecting kids from their product to lie with parents rather than themselves. Hence, they fight government regulation.

We must have the courage to say this to every government, of any stripe: if you’re building new pipelines or fossil infrastructure, this shall not pass.
