The South has quickly emerged as a battleground between big tech and working people.

Companies are pouring billions into data centers, but Southerners are fighting to block them.

The outcomes could greatly affect residents’ economic security and the region’s water supply.

Update: Trump is calling for a "new" census that excludes people in the U.S. without legal status. The 14th Amendment requires the "whole number of persons in each state" in a key set of census results.
Trump wants a new U.S. census to exclude people here illegally. It'd be unprecedented

Details are murky and no final agreement has been reached, but the plan is under serious enough consideration that the administration has discussed it with Libyan leadership.

I hate that the thanks for donating to a Democratic candidate is having my phone number sold on a list to a hundred other campaigns, all of whom send me passive-aggressive texts asking for my donation, often weirdly attempting a guilt trip, as though I knew them. I really don’t like that.

Not getting much attention, but the Senate GOP is about to start voting - to make sure banks can charge higher overdraft fees. Seriously.

Good time to let your Senators know what you think of that.

This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.

So Trump hurt America's relationship with Canada and made markets wobble all to "get" Canada to do things Canada had announced back in December in coordination with the Biden administration, do I have that right?

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

It's ridiculous. The GOP relentlessly repeats falsehoods, the historians and political scientists say that's how propaganda works, and the Dem response is to be mad that somebody with 300 followers named ACABussygalore isn't fully aligned with a carefully-crafted press release no one read.
By a longshot, the most common mistake people who are into politics make - from seven-figure strategists to randos offering Takes online - is overestimating how much attention normal people pay to politics, how much they know, and how deeply they think about it.

*Vastly* overestimating.
Saw a "Democratic strategist" say "we have to earn people's trust back." Just mind-boggling that so many don't understand how this works.

Did voters in 2024 say "I trust the Republican Party"? No. They were mad at those in power. Democrats have to get them mad at Republicans. It's not complicated.
