We have so much good evidence for cash transfers but so many just refuse to accept that those in poverty can make good decisions.
Spoiler: They used the money just as wisely as anyone else would, and it's so frustrating that this still isn't a common sense assumption to make.

Private Equity often gets a bad rap but purely speaking as a customer, I caan't complain about Elliot's ownership of Waterstones. The shop in Lewisham is welcoming, enticing even and a real treat for my kids when aunties give them vouchers. Impressive in the face of challenge from the online giants.

Can you all stop talking about the cricket until after those of us who watch the highlights every evening have caught up?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The pipe that will supply the heat pump, drawing water from the River Rhine in Germany, is so big that you could walk through it, fully upright, I'm told.

"We plan to take 10,000 litres per second," says Felix Hack, project manager at MVV Environment.

It just feels like a very difficult phase of life we don’t handle very well at all in the UK (*gestures at the social care system*) and housing should be a big part of changing that

The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

The war will end when Russia stops fighting. Therefore, pressure has to be put on Russia, so that they stop believing that they will win. Why is that so hard to understand?

The map on the left shades constituencies by % of top council tax band properties (Band H in England, Band H and I in Wales)

The map on the right shades by median house prices.

Very different maps. That's the problem with council tax.

This fact is completely believable to any European who has driven in the states in the last decade. It's terrifying!
Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

I am about the most boringly law abiding person i know. I'm the type who leaves the correct change on top of a broken parking meter. Preventing the deportation of a 15 year old child, born and raised in my community, a friend of my kids say, would push me to direct action and take the consequences.
The Labour government does not want to rule out deporting somebody once here as a refugee 16-19 years with a British-born 15 year old child

This is a genius metaphor. 🫡
All of the societal effort that goes into making the wealthy happy is like if every year 50% of the money generated in Canada went towards teaching thousands of dogs to become cardiothoracic surgeons.

It's not going to happen, it hardly creates any jobs, and it's fucking up the dogs.

Oh wow. At this point I genuinely don't know who or what they think they're in government for.

Please tax me more.

I want nice things that work. I want security for people that aren't doing as well as me. I want investment in a positive future.

Please put up my income tax.
