Not sure how I feel about these Palestine activists on hunger strike. It's appalling they're stuck on remand (along with many many more prisoners), but the British government doesn't usually respond well to this tactic, and I'm not sure who more dead kids benefits, other than mural painters.

A lot is made of the weird right wing news entertainment channels in the US, and rightly seeing where we are with all that now, but I find the Rachel Maddow type stuff from the soft left just as weird. Why is the news reader giving an opinion? Why is she crying? Why do facts need a performance?

I think it's important not to misunderstand what these social media platforms are. They are not public arenas where we bravely take on reactionary forces in honorable combat. They are apps that expose you to stress and thereby simulate the feeling of having done something useful

What I'm getting from the Animal Farm trailer is that the makers think the book is a satire of communism, and not specifically a satire of Leninism and Stalinism.

A comic book won't harass you for 10 minutes to buy access to DLC, or flood you with ads that prevent you from enjoying the thing you actually bought. Neither will an older gaming system. This is bigger than a retro trend, it's at least in part a rejection of enshitification. Good.

I sometimes wonder if I'm just an auld fella shaking my fist at clouds when I back off from modern tech, but the truth is, most big tech products are no longer built to be useful, they're built to rinse you for a minimum standard service. And even children can see this.
