As a side note, I resent Phillips' assertion that back in the 1970s and 1980s white school kids like me were routinely racist. It is absolute bollocks. We weren't. We knew how fucked up racism was back then as much as we do now.
The "I'm no apologist for Farage, here's some apologism for Farage" column that everyone knew Trevor Phillips would write is a monument to bad faith and whataboutery. It's so tedious and predictable.
Is Nigel Farage racist? There’s a more urgent question
Reform leader’s schooldays were a different age and pale compared with the failure to protect minority children today

Think the thing about bullying at school - and that's what we are talking about with Farage with added racism - is a lot of people know *that* person from school. They either grow up and change for the better or they start a far right party with racist immigration policies and continue to be a c*nt.

It's like the incredibly tedious "Rachel from accounts" thing. Misogyny in politics remains a powerful force.
When I was at an Oxford college whose library for some reason has a copy of Reeves’ BA thesis, I was separately approached by two different people asking for help to get hold of it. The obsession with taking down her intellectual credentials is revealing - and absolutely mental.
This is the point where the anti-Reeves stories tip into madness. Criticise her performance all you like but what the hell is this?

You will be shocked to discover after reading these stories that while Rachel Reeves claimed to have been the "British girls under-14 [chess] champion" she was in reality merely the "Under 14s British Women’s Chess Association (BWCA) Girls" Champion.

This is getting utterly ridiculous now

This is a savage beauty: ‘Gullis wears the perpetual expression of a man who has just been cut up by a Honda Accord’ 👌
🚨Some personal news.

I'm thrilled to announce that I've just filed my first copy for The New Yorker.

A profile of Jonathan Gullis.

It is not normal for the media to dictate who stays and who goes in politics by hounding someone out of office.

It is not normal for the media’s national pastime to be How to bring down my own Country’s government.

This isn’t a step too far it’s a world too far.

This is how Chris Mason, like a child filled with wonder, described "the choreography and theatre that surrounds a Budget" in Feb 2024, when a male Tory Chancellor was in post.

"Plans, or even just options, can be floated... Reaction to them can be tested. Opponents can be teased or wrongfooted." 👀

No that's not *your* on *our behalf*. Your job is to report the story, presenting all sides fairly and then *we* call it. What Mason is saying here is fundamentally not what the bbc is for!

They didn’t break the Manifesto.

What they continue to break is the gap between the wealthiest and the poorest.

And soon the gap between Landlords and Tenants.

And the gap between Worker and Boss.

That squealing sure is deafening.

A government not weighed down by fear would adopt a Who Governs strategy, saying the right wing press cannot be allowed to run Britain. This government won't do that. The weakness is so destructive.

On World AIDS Day, we remember all those we've lost to HIV/AIDS related illness and unite in our battle against the virus.

We’ve committed to zero new transmission of HIV in the capital by 2030. We’ll continue to work with partners to tackle the stigma of getting tested and treated.

It's the lack of courage of the Labour government that's most disappointing.
Get on the front foot and defend tax rises, immigration etc. Stop following polls and focus groups.

What we're seeing is exactly what we saw in the late 1940s, the late 1960s and the mid- to late 1970s: a concerted and hysterical campaign to delegitimise a Labour government, and indeed the very idea of Labour governments at all.

What this Reeves lying nonsense very obviously boils down to is immense disappointment on the right that the budget did not tank the markets. They wanted a Truss moment causing huge problems for millions of people but didn’t get one. They are patriots, apparently.

Media after the budget: she had 4 billion quid left over, loads of dosh why did she lie about having to put taxes up.

Papers - ok it's what they do. Broadcasters, though? No excuses.
