“While Mayor, I was often asked ‘how have you been able to afford bike-lanes in #Copenhagen?’ I’d reply, ‘how have you been able to NOT afford it? 25 years ago we were a few days away from going bankrupt. So the city invested in the cheapest infrastructure… bicycling.’” — @mortenkabell.bsky.social

It’s been 4-years since the Mass Ave Bridge added separated bike lanes. Despite initial opposition, it’s been a massive success for bikers, drivers & pedestrians.

Fall 2023 data saw an avg of 6,160 bikes crossing the bridge, a 51% increase. Vehicle travel times remain unchanged.

Official US economic statistics are no longer reliable and community efforts will be needed to replace them. Reply “YES” to this post if you have a job and “NO” if you don’t. Later on someone can count them.

"The story of cycling must include all of us those who ride fast and those who ride slow, those who ride for joy and those who ride out of necessity. That’s how we build a cycling community that’s not just diverse in theory, but inclusive and transformative in practice."
You can’t call yourself a cycling community without fat Black women
And who gets to call themselves a cyclist, anyway?

One of my deeply held beliefs is that if we could condition people to accept how chance affects their lives, they’d be much better equipped to recognize how systemic things impact them.
We are suckers for agency when we think we can game a system, even where we can't. "I have a system to always win auctions/gambling/stock market..." No you don't, you get lucky sometimes and notice, and then keep chasing that.

You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive

the one thing i genuinely did not anticipate from this administration was its vicious, know nothing hostility to any and everything that might even be adjacent to science and scientific research. they genuinely one to destroy the entirety of the nation’s research capacity. and for what, exactly?
If you think I've forgotten about the hurricane satellites, think again. The Navy is permanently unplugging them this week, on the brink of the busiest stretch of the season. There's so much more to this story, and I have the latest scoop. ⬇️

Your local government is where you have power. Spend your scrolling time engaging locally instead. Local gov affects your quality of life SO much. Put the screen down, make IRL friends, improve your life.+

It's become clear that this administration is just a protracted war on anybody who's read a book without pictures in it. It's a miracle we're all still getting up and going to work every morning. The psychological drain is the point, and I'm increasingly grateful to the people who are still decent.
