I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life

Absolutely insane take.

The DC metro is fine (in fact, by American metro standards, it’s very nice!)
Rep. Lisa McClain, on CNN, praising President Trump for deploying the National Guard to Washington:

"My daughter could actually ride the Metro for the first time since she has been in DC."

Youtube, I will do many things up to and including pasting reddit-suggested code willy-nilly into my adblocker, opening a private browser, or just NOT watching a video but I will never, ever, EVER turn off my ad blocker. You cannot beat me. You cannot win. I will not give in. EXCELSIOR.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

These folks understand that museums don’t belong to Trump; they belong to the people.

My wife & I are museum goers, and so are our kids — for art, for history, for learning.

Never once have I walked into a history museum & questioned if what I was seeing was true. Are those days coming to an end?
