If nothing else, this phenomenon is heightening the visibility of those who use citation simply as a signaling apparatus and not for the purposes of leading readers to the source of their claims or the thinking with which they are engaging.
I’m sorry, but it is disgraceful to be an academic who uses this technology to conduct research. It should be prohibited in all of our scholarly institutions, including universities and journals.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Spotify inadvertently clocked exactly the kind of year I'm having, my desperation "please god let me get some SLEEP" space noise playlists absolutely dominated all of my streaming categories lmao

It's gloomy and cold and I wish my perfect fluffy angel kitty cat was still here. I see her out of the corner of my eye everywhere and I really miss her.

All day, many of you have been asking for a Cheney obituary from me. Get ready:
His Works Completed, Dick Cheney, Mass Murderer of Iraqis and American Democracy, Dies
As much as the Trumpists claim to disavow the War on Terror, they walk a path paved by the most powerful vice president in U.S. history.

Overheard a Cuomo flyerer outside my polling place chatting with someone say "well if a man wants to dress up like a woman let him do it but he'll have to answer to God" and wow, what a great last minute affirmation of why I voted for Zohran! No line at my polling place rn, in and out in 5 minutes.

We are in an era of deadweight loss - this stuff just won't happen. Even a country committed to filling the gap cannot possibly do it by an order of magnitude overnight - they would need to do something like double every year for a decade. And we'd need a lot of countries to do the same.

Trump and his agenda *are* deeply unpopular. This doesn’t do anything on it’s own. It is a resource with which we can do things.

few ideas have damaged the average psyche more than ‘the customer is always right.’ it should be a little bit humiliating, being a customer. you should walk into any service transaction knowing that the other person, and not you, is in control over whether you get your treats

Morning! I did a lil analysis and turns out that, when ED employees are illegally fired and contracts are canceled, ED is unable to fulfill its congressional mandate to publish national statistics on the condition of education.

Why does that matter? Well...

One policy solution to Young Men we should be considering is Universal Basic Electric Guitar (UBEG). I'm not joking, by the way. Kids of any gender should get a low-cost starter kit for some hobby of their choosing once they turn 13. A camera, paints, a cheap sampler, etc.

And: data is not knowledge, knowledge requires a knower, which is only and ever a person or collection of persons.
This is basically the takeaway for my qualitative methods class today: All data must be interpreted. And all data are qualitative unless and until they're interpreted quantitatively.
You will never be able to make "data driven" decisions until you realize just how much your decisions are driven by emotions: fear of missing out, defensiveness of your favorite idea, apprehension over something unusual.

That's because there's no such thing as "the data" - only interpretations.

When I see people online, even in jest, suggest that people living in Republican-controlled states should be abandoned because of their politicians, I feel a deep heartache. New York CREATED Donald Trump and none of y’all are ever talk about it the way you disparage Alabama or Mississippi.
