The goal of the multiyear plan, which Ms. Hochul is expected to introduce alongside the mayor in an appearance Thursday morning and will be a part of her State of the State address on Jan. 13, would be to offer universal access to children statewide, her office said.

I went to a talk Ta-Nehisi Coates gave when “The Case for Reparations” came out and I remember someone in the Q&A asked why he didn’t also talk about Native American reparations.

The response was something like “that is a worthy topic but sometimes you need to focus on/write about one thing”
Update: I am informed that there was a DSA rally in which all possible other causes were dragged in, and a very left acquaintance said: Jeez, I’m leaving.

Sigh.

We should be able to have vigils that focus on this one event, not just for big tent reasons but out of respect for someone who has DIED.
Boston area people: is there a vigil or demonstration for Renee Good?

Also, how does one get on the mailing lists that tell you about such things without having to ask Bluesky? I only got here a few months ago, and I have not yet found them.

I've seen a million posts like this but that's just not how international politics works. What really matters is power, not credibility or moral consistency. If Xi Jinping thinks he can successfully invade Taiwan at acceptable cost, he will do it
If Xi Jinping invaded Taiwan right now, and toppled the president there, on what grounds would the United States object? Or have any credibility to say anything?

I know I've said it a million times now but between Mamdani and Schumer, the median Democratic voter is far closer to the former than the latter on Palestine today. The pro-Israel bloc makes a mistake, on a fundamental level, by raising the salience of the issue.

I do think the pro Israel people understand within 10 years, Israel will have no allies outside of Russia and China and that Israel will be universally hated in the US very soon, but they genuinely do not understand persuasion so they don't know how to pivot.

All other things put aside, the fact is that just a few years ago the views Mamdani holds on Palestine would have rendered him persona non grata and now they do not. The establishment has to contend with him. To what extent he then in turn has to contend with the establishment is still undetermined.
U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who didn't endorse Zohran Mamdani for mayor, is expected to attend his inauguration at City Hall set to start shortly, per a source.

Schumer will be seated on the dais with other top pols.

i remember talking about this issue polarizing on party lines but it seems like the actual divide is going to be elected officials, who are all 9000 years old and were best friends with golda meir, vs voters, who think its not great that israel keeps killing so many kids
It seems the pro-Israel consensus among Democrats is well and truly dead at this point. Dem primary voters prefer candidates who refuse to travel to Israel (by net +45%) and back a bill to end military aid to Israel (by net +61%). www.filesforprogress.org/datasets/202...

The President of the United States appears to be getting regular IV infusions, the public doesn’t know anything about it, & the DC media evidently doesn’t care.

We are months into the mystery of Trump’s hands, the White House is lying, & I’ve seen a grand total of one serious news story about it.

Trump is very sick, probably dying— and they're betting that he won't last out his term. They're carving out space in the post-Trump MAGA world. MTG is distancing herself from the Vance 2028 camp.
