as long as the material conditions of people’s lives are tied to patterns of racial inequality — as long as racism marks them as racialized people exposed to some
of the worst forms of social domination and class inequality — then there is no disregarding race as a social reality

To say legacy media is not built for this moment is a gross understatement. The people destroying this country are being treated with respect.
NPR Morning Edition had Steve Bannon on yesterday, and PBS News Hour has Chris Rufo on right now. What the fuck is wrong with you??? What possible reason is there to platform these lying assholes???

To be fair, half is a pretty sizable number for such a serious conclusion. I would have never said this about any previous President, Republican or Democrat.

Bad. But 3 Republicans is a start. There will be more later
(AXIOS) - The Senate on Wednesday killed a resolution that would have effectively reversed President Trump's 10% tariffs on all imported goods, with just three Republicans joining with Democrats in support of the measure.

Senate GOP leaders succeed in protecting Trump tariffs
It comes the same day the Commerce Department reported that the U.S. economy contracted by 0.3% in the first quarter — the first contraction in three years.

The median American institution that should be playing a role in standing up for democracy sucks right now. Courts are doing great. Some universities. But big media companies are really doing awful. What do they think the news is for?
The speed with which Congress not having the power of the purse, law and the Constitution be damned, has been normalized by the press is the most terrifying thing to me.

60% of Republicans think they can put up with tariff pain for 1-3 years before the benefits kick in.

Bet.

I think they’ll scream the loudest once the pain really kicks in over the next 2-3 months
Trump is asking for patience. This is gonna end badly for everyone.
May 1, 2025 at 12:30 AM
OK. This is just stupid.

We can all see what’s working and what’s not. Actions that draw media attention and make the case against Trump works. Do more of that. Keep the pressure on. They will fold

This shows me the people Trump talks to have convinced him his tariffs are going to lead to shortages and higher prices. This is him trying out the idea that that’s a good thing.

Good luck with that
Trump: “Somebody said, ‘Oh the shelves are going to be open.’ Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls. And maybe the two dolls will cost a couple bucks more than they would normally.”

The journalist did not bring the responses the customer ordered. Going to get a no stars review.

He won’t be satisfied with anything short of North Korean style coverage
For context, there's tons of evidence that Trump genuinely thinks that F-35s are literally invisible.

The executive is unitary except when courts need it to do something. In that case, we cannot locate the manager. The brazenest bullshit imaginable
Host: You could call and get Abrego Garcia back.

Trump: I could

Host: But the Supreme Court has ordered you to facilitate his release.

Trump: I'm not the one making this decision

Host: You're the president!

Clearest explanation I’ve seen of how Trump’s tariff strategy cannot possibly accomplish what he says they will. Literally impossible, because he has contradictory goals. So, so dumb
The President has a choice: Deals, or tariff revenue.

You can have one, but you can't have both.

I was already done with Amazon. This is just a reminder to feel disgust for Bezos from here on out and act accordingly. He’s the Quislingest of them all
President Trump per the pool:

"Jeff Bezos is very nice. Terrific. He solved the problem very quickly. He did the right thing. Good guy."

This is right and it’s everything. Banding together and defending - or even better, going on offense - wins. Trump sucks at the games he’s trying to play. Go out and beat him.
Fantastic piece from @dahlialithwick.bsky.social on the tide finally starting to turn: "But what really matters—what is measurable and knowable now in a way that was not a few weeks ago—is that standing up to Trump is going to be worth it." slate.com/news-and-pol...

Some have responded w/ a version of "why are you elevating this story when non-citizens have it much worse?"

This story shows, in a concrete & visceral way, that citizenship is not a shield from state lawlessness in a mass deportation regime. That realization can turn ppl against such policies.
Please highlight this story.

ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago.

“Regardless of the underlying merits” is such an acknowledgement. Literally gives away that he knows you’re right on the merits. He’s just committed to the idea that you must grant Wurman’s position is reasonable, I guess out of a fucked up sense of professional decorum. Waste of your time
yeah, you’re right. I know. The dead silence here on the merits is telling. Still frustrating.
