Exactly this.
The basic problem with the temporary refugee status policy - especially one lasting up to 20 years - is it leads to very few removals (based on Denmark's experience) but does significantly worsen integration.

If I was devising a set of announcements to elevate (but not satisfy) the hard right, alienate the middle ground and completely discourage your base, I couldn’t come up with a much better strategy than McSweeney and Number 10

The Government inherited an asylum system in meltdown, and had managed to at least get cases being processed again while ending the madness of the Rwanda plan. But the policies being announced today undermine all of that, making it harder for refugees to integrate and contribute to their communities

A strong immigration system doesn't need to be a cruel one.

It shouldn't need saying - but refugees & asylum seekers are real people, fleeing war and persecution.

This daughter of an immigrant is proud of our British and Labour values of respect and not turning our backs on people in real need.

What is truly pathetic about Labour is that this is all they have got. They have failed so spectacularly already, despite a whacking great majority, to even attempt to govern positively that all they have is punching down on marginalised groups and saying "oh but Reform will be worse".

David is slightly unfair. There is a clear difference here.

Conservatives and Reform plan to forcibly expel large numbers of people who are legal, permanent residents of migrant origin. The BNP proposal is voluntary.
This below is from the 2005 BNP manifesto.

Spot the difference with current Tory and Reform policy.

Farage wanting to kick people out of the country because they migrated here made me angry and made me think about which best of British people and things wouldn't have happened were it not for the brilliance of immigration to the UK.

You can work out just how close to the Labour front bench an MP is by their response to Nigel Farage's bonkers xenophobia - ranging from the PM's spokesperson and Rachel Reeve's "unworkable" critique (which suggests they'd do it if it worked) to MP Natasha Irons reiterating "this is racist."

Jaw-dropping🧵 Beyond embarrassing for the government.

I'm now wondering if people now have to ask for a reconsideration of their slavery case AFTER removal to France and they are found to be victims of slavery and brought back to Britain, will they count as one of the one in one outs?
The Home Office's appeal against this ruling has been refused

The judges threw it out in minutes, without hearing arguments from the man's lawyers, telling them "we don’t need to trouble you" after questioning Home Office barrister in an increasingly surreal exchange
