for the past few months the us has been ruled by a lawless triumvirate--a mobster (trump), a plutocrat (musk), and a commissar (miller)--haphazardly implementing, respectively, a great leap backward (tariffs), a kleptocratic shock therapy (doge), and a gestapo-spearheaded ethnic cleansing (ice)...

Anyway, expect The Onion to do big, dumb, unexpected things in the next year. We'll use our singular place in the world to give good people the words and guts to get through a truly fucking stupid time.

The Onion is in a unique spot: We're independent and not beholden to anyone, in a time when that's increasingly both rare and necessary. We're one of the rare media organizations allowed, and expected, to say things no one else can say, but everybody knows is true.

We'll be exploiting that in 2025.

I'm so proud of what this place has accomplished over the last year, like sending a newspaper to subscribers in every state and 50 countries. People tell us it makes opening their mailbox a little less horrifying every day, and I love that.

But we're going to be even more fearless in the next year.

I want to be clear about this: Fighting for art and speech and jokes and generally not being a piece of shit is good for the soul, obviously.

But it's also good for business.

The places that abandoned their values to get in line and kiss the ring are fading. The Onion is growing.

I want to make this clear: We're growing BECAUSE we stuck to who we are in the face of fascism.

Eight days after the election, when everyone was scared, we bought InfoWars. (So was the court, turns out. We're working on it.)

We knew it would be hard, but the world needed it, so we did it.

Forgive the earnest post here, but one year ago this week, Global Tetrahedron took over The Onion. We've since brought back the paper and ONN, dramatically increased revenue, and hired more writers and artists.

But most importantly, as other places debased themselves, we refused to bend the knee.

Just a reminder how classic what we're seeing is:
1. redefine a group as a threat to civilization
2. reduce legal protections that they enjoy
3. abuse, threaten, harm, and/or relocate them
4. dismiss/ignore concerns about abuses and harms from the process
5. repeat steps 2-4, escalating each time
