It exposes directional alignment; you still seek to limit, not expand, who is allowed to be human. Yes, you have set your limitation more inclusively than our fascist gang of white supremacists; it doesn't mean you're not also setting limitations & they'll use your limit as long as it serves them.

I can't trust politicians who are anti-trans. Not because I'm "only searching for perfection" which is what centrists will be accusing me of for the rest of my life, it's because if you're not pro-trans you'll be garbage on lots of other issues too. Being anti-trans NEVER exists in a vacuum.

They're deflecting.

The UCP wants to exact as much harm on transgender folks as possible. And they know their actions are not justifiable in a democratic society.

if your ideology is based on the idea that it is justifiable to prey on the weak there isn't going to be a meaningful boundary you can draw between looting from the poor and sexually exploiting kids. i don't think every conservative is a pervert but that is the logical conclusion of their beliefs

You know a country by its values. By what a country values. And it turns out that what a country values can change over time. Sometimes, though, there’s a sort of cognitive delay between the country you think you are in, and the country you’ve actually become. For example, you can keep selling yourself, to foreigners, as the country of William Shakespeare and Jane Austen, and luring busloads of tourists to Stratford-upon-Avon and Bath, and put a statue of George Orwell in front of the BBC, and imagine yourself a cultured and literate nation, which the rest of the world admires for its devotion to the written word – but if you then chronically underfund your cultural institutions, and treat your cultural workers with contempt, many people will suspect you of being full of it. And as the decades pass – and fewer and fewer Shakespeares and Austens and Orwells emerge from your little island – even more people will begin to suspect that in truth you do not value culture at all, and are in fact running a giant heritage museum in which the only cultural workers you respect are the dead ones.

In the middle of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, Canada 1) contracted to buy missiles from an Israeli company and 2) planned to send Canadian troops to Israel for training on how to use them.

Absolutely unconscionable and an egregious violation of international law.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) planned to send 29 personnel to Israel last year for training in how to use anti-tank missiles purchased from an Israeli arms company, documents obtained by The Maple reveal. The Department of National Defence (DND) is refusing to confirm whether or not the scheduled training sessions took place as planned in Israel, or disclose how much travel for the sessions cost. The scheduled training sessions were for the use of Spike LR2 missiles made by Rafael Advance Defence Systems, which was awarded a $43 million contract by DND in December 2023. The missiles were purchased for Canadian troops taking part in Operation Reassurance, a NATO mission in Latvia.

🚨 This is inexplicable news to share. If in Alberta and you want flu and covid shots for NEXT year (2026-2027), you have only until December 15 of THIS year to order them.

This is not incompetence. It’s a deliberate choice to prevent as many people ..

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections
