Part of the reason the ICE shootings get in a lot of gun owners' craw, even if you look past the obvious 'this could have been us' aspect, is that these shootings violate the basic rules of firearm safety that (rightly) get drilled into responsible gun owners' heads.

Friedersdorf and Singal are now attempting to distance themselves from their good friends and colleagues. Rats leaving the sinking ship. Too bad they bear full responsibility for their choices and will face public judgment for the rest of their lives!
They just figured it out.

To have this extremely unusual order in hand day-of is astonishing.

A magistrate judge found no probable cause to support arrest warrants for 5 people involved in the St. Paul church protest.

DOJ appealed to the 8th Cir.

That appeal led to this remarkable letter from the Chief Judge of the Minnesota district court…

ICE killing #AlexPretti should remind you of police killing #PhilandoCastille. Both men had concealed weapon permits, did not draw their guns, & were killed in Minn. These homicides are the price of unaccountable policing. These deaths are variations on the same fatal theme.

Cannot imagine

When the CBP or ICE agent that Stephen Miller is trying to get killed dies, it is extremely important that every member of the media be told, repeatedly and loudly, that they wanted this and that people called it out in advance.

Here's what the Counteroffensive is reading today:

Russia has only 3-4 Oreshnik missiles but plans to build 5+ per year starting in 2026, Ukrainian intel reports.

Despite peace talks and Russia’s rhetoric about ending the war, Russia continues to ramp up military production.

I was a sensitive kid. I loved cats. I had OCD, undiagnosed.

When I was 9, a fraternity brother tortured a cat to death in my hometown. The details even now are beyond imagination. archive.is/xdmUL

I was traumatized for years from reading the news story.

The torturer? Now the head of the NRA.

By Saturday afternoon, some Trump admin. personnel had already begun scouring the internet and other resources trying to find information on Alex Pretti, including social media posts, that could tie him to what Team Trump call “extremists,” two sources familiar with the matter tell @zeteo.com
New: Alex Pretti, the man killed by the Trump-Vance mob of agents was an outdoorsmen, a mountain biker, an ICU nurse who "would go out of his way to help," say Veterans Affairs colleagues.

Cheerful. Funny. Gentle.

And still, per sources, Trump officials are urging staff to call him a "terrorist."

It is not an exaggeration at all - at all - to compare this to how segregationist terrorists would murder peaceful civil rights activists and then their political and civilian allies would immediately laugh about it.

It’s the exact same moral and policy cadence

Good stuff from @gregsargent.bsky.social.

I think we tend to overemphasize, esp. w/ Trump's mush-brain at the top, that their fascism is a kind of purely id-driven emotional impulse. But it's a real ideology w/ real theorists and tenets. Miller isn't an evil genius, but he has a real evil worldview

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

MN, among other things, is a longtime high engagement / high social capital culture that has also had five years to collectively reflect on, learn from, and plan for the future on the basis of the events and experiences of 2020
It’s been pretty interesting in interviews how aware Minnesotans are that the govt wants them to get violent, throw bricks, etc. Which only seems to get them to dig in more about NOT doing that. It’s so hard to guide anger into new directions that I find myself mostly just amazed.

Saying there must be trials isn't just an emotive aspiration.

Congress can:
- Create a new court (complying w/ 6A jury vicinage)
- Give it jurisdiction over defined category of crimes
- Also create dedicated prosecutors for the same
- Strip SCOTUS of appellate jurisdiction

It can be done.
