The most reactionary anti-immigrant policy in my lifetime cannot fail it can only be failed, both the absence and presence of violence against the state are seen as justifications for its continued and expanded brutality.

Any political “leader” still selling the obviously false choice between #ClimateAction and “the economy” is just reminding us that they clearly don’t understand either the climate crisis OR the economy.

Or they’re cynically hope that WE don’t understand the difference.

Or both.

You may want to imagine yourself as that guy who says loud no to fascism when everybody around cheers yes. Who knows, you may be that guy. You should definitely try to be them, when and if the moment comes. But the clear odds are that you'd be one of the people cheering or keeping quiet.

Not only global in scope, but as I've been arguing for a while and developing in my book project, reacting to global shifts as much as to domestic politics and culture wars. The global and the local feed into each other.
Definitely an overlooked point: The authoritarian far right, including its white nationalist iterations, are self-consciously global in scope and liberals need to adapt to that:
The movement to destroy liberal democracy is international, and so must be its defense

So yeah, we are seeing pretty massive investments in both traditional and renewable energy sources globally in anticipation of increased AI energy demand, which would hopefully provide a lot of plentiful and cheap energy should that bubble pop
If folks spending inconceivable amounts of money to try to make AI happen would like to invest in a wholesale upgrade of the grid to make their dreams come true that would be super! *THAT* would be the "AI dividend" we'd enjoy in the aftermath, like dark fiber was.

Never forget that American women, half of the US population, are second class citizens since the Dobbs decision. There are no restrictions on men and their bodies, which makes this blatantly wrong and unequal treatment under the law.

Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.
