If members of the press are worried they didn’t give enough coverage to the cognitive decline of a sitting president, they have an amazing opportunity to make up for it right now.

Even if we put aside the awful substance of Newsom's remarks, the setup—"he brought Charlie Kirk on his podcast to show how much he agreed with Kirk about _____"—is already damning by itself.

The fact that sentence ends with "trans rights" makes it worse, not better. But it's already disqualifying.

Over the last few weeks, we have seen displays of unfettered cruelty.

Cruelty isn’t power. It’s a primal display of weakness and ignorance.

Kindness and empathy are intelligence. We must never forget that.

Your regular reminder McConnell could have taken care of this in January 2021
Mitch McConnell on the Ukraine war:

"Blame for this human catastrophe rests solely on Vladimir Putin … If Russian forces laid down their arms, Europe would be at peace. If Ukrainian forces laid down theirs, Putin's aims would not stop … Mistaking this fact is as embarrassing as it is costly."

Elon Musk's elderly co-President Donald Trump has good days and bad days but it's increasingly only days where he can't remember the names of cabinet offices. Brains leaking out his ears.

Biden's popularity was ground down by a relentless propaganda campaign across old and new media, but even before it turned out he couldn't get through a debate without glitching, the Democrats really thought they could survive in that environment with a president who couldn't talk to the public
biden did a lot of great things on policy. he and the party sucked on politics. they didnt publicize their wins nor did they position the gop as the opposition to progress. instead they kept quiet and talked about bipartisanship and their good friends. it was a miserable failure.
Didn’t Biden do that? Just that the tidal wave of fascism his loss ushered in is not all on him. Yeah, definitely partly on him but he did pass meaningful legislation. He did foster an environment — it was just boring for the media and Trump’s shit was so bad it was hard to both-sides but they did.

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance.

Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"
