doing commercials used to be a shameful thing that you had to go to Japan to do
matthew mcconaughey, bradley cooper, and parker posey should be in movies, not doing uber eats commercials. pathetic

production of The Muppet Show should not be dependent on petty vulgarities like “ratings” or “revenue.” it should be preserved as a vital function of american culture. it should have a taxpayer-funded budget rivaling the CIA

A wartime mobilization of lawyers and bureaucrats will pay for itself by seizing tens of billions of dollars
I would love to see more tax policy wonks working on the question of how exactly we're going to impoverish the Trump family
once Trump is out of power whatever punitive and targeted taxes congress could think up to claw those dollars back should be a top priority

when all this is over computers are gonna be hilariously cheap
“.. Our BTC price target is 0.0. That’s not just for shock factor. It’s where the math takes us,” the strategist said, noting that Bitcoin has failed to function as a dollar hedge and instead operates as “a speculative instrument correlated to the Nasdaq.”

"This guy is clearly a monster, but he's a well-connected and well-resourced monster so I'm going to let it slide" is the universal lapse in judgement here among elites, and it's a huge issue that seems to be getting missed even though it's so damning of the culture around them.

Something I rarely see come up in these opsec convos is that iPhones (and probably Androids idk) have an emergency wipe setting. Entering your password wrong 10 times will erase the device (also hitting the sleep button 5 times turns off Face ID)

there’s comfort in knowing this whole class of chud will have whistle-related PTSD for the rest of their lives
I have been arguing since the great anti Muslim panic under Bush that conservatives are fucking weak ass fuckers. They’re goddamned scared of EVERYTHING. Muslims. Black people. Women. Drag queens. I’ve never seen a more scared ass group in my life. They’re fucking scared of WHISTLES.

Frankenstein is so damn good
I often think about this bc the book is a set of nested frames where each subsequent frame helps you decipher the previous speaker, so, for example, we encounter Victor telling us the creature’s story, which becomes a way to understand Victor (boo! hiss!). The refugee story is the center frame.
At the center of the novel Frankenstein is the story of a refugee family who lost everything to protect others from persecution. It’s from this family that the creature vicariously learns language and begins to consider how it should relate to its maker.
