This is great. For one thing, protesters are safer in the presence of National Guard soldiers by orders of magnitude. Second, the approach embraced by the Minnesota Army National Guard makes ICE and CBP look so incredibly small and weak.
Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.

i think they are bad consolidating authoritarianism choices because effective consolidation involves carrots as well as (secret) sticks. this administration is doing the opposite. no carrots whatsoever and ostentatious public violence against members of the dominant racial/ethnic/religious group

They’re all panicking. They can see how mad everyone is and they thought that Trump winning again meant that they would suffer no more consequences for their support, now the White House is realizing they might end up in jail and the rank and file will be social pariahs again. It’s a bad scene.
