If you reframed this as “values”, people might find it harder to pretend it’s a problem. If someone has fundamentally different values to yours, you might be less inclined to form a relationship with them. It goes beyond preference.

Everyone has a list of so-called "red flags" when they're dating. And for some, especially younger Americans, different political views is a relationship deal breaker.

This is where sometimes the extreme pro-urbanism people lose me. Pricing postal service at cost to remote areas is the same as removing postal service to remote areas, which is the same as killing remote areas. The positive argument for universal postal service is universal postal service.
sure, but what's the positive argument for state subsidy of package delivery to low-density / remote areas?

In the 1920s, the KKK circulated rumors that Catholics had amassed a huge arsenal of weapons and explosives and hidden them in the basements and sewers beneath the University of Notre Dame, in preparation for a Catholic takeover of the US.

Thinking about this today for no particular reason.

There are tons of movies about how emotionally painful it was for US troops to invade and occupy Iraq and Afghanistan and commit assorted atrocities while there.
"no one thinks about the perpetrators!" is always a lie.
Just thinking... we give so much attention (as we should!) to the victims of state violence, ie, people sent to CECOT.

But, we give little consideration to the psychic violence suffered by those tasked with carrying out the physical violence.

Yes, they "chose" those jobs. But...

I still remember the sheer thrill of my first (1st gen) iPod. Musically, it was the closest thing I could imagine to what Arthur C Clarke saying that any sufficiently advanced technology would be indistinguishable from magic
Got this fantastically clever Christmas gift. It's a dedicated algorithm free music player that you can carry around without the distractions of your phone, and it can hold thousands of songs without needing an internet connection. The UI is so simple anyone can manage it. Fantastic

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but
2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but
3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So
4. Now the LLM code points to malware.
LLMs hallucinating nonexistent software packages with plausible names leads to a new malware vulnerability: "slopsquatting."
LLMs can't stop making up software dependencies and sabotaging everything

FOX: If you cut something by 100%, the cost goes down to 0. If you cut it by 600%, the drug companies are actually paying you

LUTNICK: What he's saying is if a drug was $100 and you bring it down to $13, it's down 7 times

F: Not a 600% cut

L: But it's 700% higher price before. It's down 700% now
