On behalf of large majority of Americans, who are appalled by the Trump administration’s catastrophic Greenland policy and firmly reject any aggression of any form against our NATO allies, I applaud the European leaders who are standing up to defend our common values.

I know there are much worse things going on in the world but if men (always cis, almost always het) could stop explaining things without being asked that would be great

these guys aren't pretending to offer Greenlanders or any of their neoimperialist victims freedom or equality or self-determination. they're just offering to consume them and despoil their land of natural resources. An earlier generation of Americans would have hung them at nuremberg for it

If the DEA had killed 80 innocent Americans in the course of apprehending one drug dealer, there would be riots. But we are so ghoulishly indifferent to the lives and humanity of people abroad that it's barely even part of the conversation.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.

bari weiss saw this and decided that she had to hide it from the american public
Guards began beating him. Beat him until he bled. Knocked his face into the wall, broke all his teeth. No access to outdoors, no contact with relatives.

Now describing US knowledge of CECOT's torture practices, followed by footage of Trump praising those practices.

The Republican party wants to force people to have more children, children which they also want to kill and rape. You can tell because of the policies they support that do these things and the pedophiles they defend.

it might seem surprising that the people who said “look, let trans people live their lives, but i have Reasonable Concerns about sports and toilets” aren’t up in arms about this, but what you have to remember is that those people who said that are liars who were lying

One of the dilemmas of living through the second Trump administration is that saying these things out loud seems crazy. But yeah, the death penalty is an established, well-documented thing we have on the books for precisely these kinds of crimes; they obviously did it; and it's not hard to prove.
"the government should try, convict and then kill the secretary of defense for the crime he very obviously seems to have committed" seems like a radical thing to say, but -- no, it's not. it's the actual penalty for what pete hegseth, a man who ordered death squads to murder civilians, has done.

I'm not against the idea that some sort of silicon intelligence *might* arise at some point--we're not even nearly there as far as I can tell--but humans are SO programmed to regard things that do not have human agency as if they do have human agency, that this seems like a necessary move
my most butlerian jihad coded belief is that we should probably make it illegal – and more importantly, we should work toward a cultural consensus that it is immoral – to design a computer program whose interface uses the first person

Bitcoin, a completely speculative asset, denominated in the very fiat currencies it purports to replace, burns energy with no appreciable reflection of that resource extraction in its value, which itself hinges on nothing but hype, and brings no social benefit. Shouldn't be allowed to exist.

Dick Cheney was a dangerous fool. He not only wanted to exploit the trauma of 9/11 to turn America into the kind of country that builds a network of gulags, tortures random unfortunates, and embarks on misdirected wars, he got the whole power structure of the republic to go along with him.
