I increasingly feel certain that the thing that has driven politics insane is the growing ability of people to find ways to validate their beliefs, no matter how incorrect and irrational. It started in right-wing media but has become central to all political discussion.

I mean the Constitution is a dead letter at this point. Trump does whatever he wants and Republicans either scoff at the idea he has to follow any rules or retroactively change the rules so he has to follow them.

there is no rational explanation for why so many grocery store salsas are so mid. a reasonable, solution-oriented society would have started phasing out the Pace-tier options 25 years ago

I do not understand why you would fantasize a future where your child works with its hands instead of having a computer job. A computer job is undeniably a better outcome, it’s why people jump through all kinds of hoops to have a computer job.

This is the part that’s always so infuriating. Elon doesn’t know any SSA workers. Or park rangers. Or NIH researchers. Or admins who run all the office functions. But he’s a sociopath so it’s easy for him to just declare a million strangers are undeserving of their jobs.
my wife was fired this week from her job at a major local nonprofit hospital because Trump/Musk are strangling it to death

while my cousin (a veteran nurse at the Alaska VA who helps other veterans all day) texts me to say she's likely being fired while her union gets dissolved

GUYS I AM BEGGING YOU TO STOP RUINING GREAT SHOWS BY GETTING OBSESSED WITH FAN THEORIES AND TREATING EVERY DETAIL AS AN EASTER EGG. You'll just be disappointed when the finale comes and your intricate theory is wrong. Just sit back and watch how Reacher completes the mission.

It’s so funny that any rational person would be like, well you need 7 of our votes, so what are you going to do for us? And Senate Democrats just like didn’t think to do that. Like stand up for yourselves.
The terrible CR Budget bill — written by right-wing House Republicans with no input from anybody but themselves — was passed tonight with the support of 10 Democrats.

An absolute failure of Democratic leadership. NOBODY in the Senate should have voted for this dangerous bill.

why fight now when you can wait six months for something else that will prevent you from fighting
Schumer tells me Republicans might try to jam Democrats again in September, but thinks Trump will be less popular then and Republican appropriators might be more willing to stand up to him. He said they refused to do so now.

This administration is like a second pandemic. The biggest issue is all the avoidable deaths, but life is also marginally worse in a million little ways, and the foregone output (economic, academic, etc) will loom over us for decades to come
