This is also, truly, the greatest film for teaching people how commodities trading works, and also how speculative financial markets work in general. I regularly reference this one to explain investors and general board room decision-making to early-career folks if they've seen the film.

Having spent some time in my life reading comments on the internet, should we just call it? Is it time to give up? Are they just going go forever think the word "biased" does not exist, and it's just "bias" from here on out?

"NO stupid your just bias"

Yes, correct. That's right.

These declines are MASSIVE.

And the comparative silence in media coverage is absolutely DAMNING.

“Why are ppl always so afraid of crime?”

THIS is why. When crime goes up, media trips over itself to report it.

Falls to pre-war (!!) levels? Just CRICKETS.
I count 10 cities in 2025 that are on track to have the fewest murders since at least 1970. Newark is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1956 (though only have data through Oct this year) and San Francisco is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1942.

Only one person has ever retracted their signing of that letter

They also helped suppress the response letter !
Worth remembering that Bari Weiss signed that oh-so-remarkable Harper’s Letter about the vital importance of free speech and the need to resist attacks on it.

I know that letter is five years old now, but utterly annoys me as much today as it did when it came out.

So transparently bad.

Just gonna keep posting my adventures with socialized healthcare. Today I did my next day appointment for:
- eye exam
- digital eye imaging and pressure check
- contact and glasses prescription
- new glasses and frames, with coating and progressive lenses
I splurged $100 on designer frames

There's no way these do anything useful to advertise the property. They're just a way for the estate agent to get their brand in front of other potential sellers.
it’s grimly funny to me that stratas don’t let you have your laundry drying on a balcony, and yet are powerless or something to stop this sort of very attractive dogs breakfast at the front of the property

My theory is that in five-ish years, we will have PlayStations/SMB hubs with models about as capable as GPT-4 in aggregate, so unsubsidised “good enough” grunt-work AI will be widely accessible. So everyone can easily get the AI that autocompletes code, but also the one that makes revenge porn.
The fun thing about the AI as dotcom crash metaphor is that it's bullish for AI. While companies like Webvan, Kozmo & Pets. com failed - today we have Amazon, DoorDash & Chewy.

We also have Netflix, TikTok, Uber and lots of other companies we couldn’t have imagined in 2001.

AI will be similar.

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

🤡There's never been a time in US history where people expect you to apologize *for being white*. People expect you to apologize*for being pro-racism*.

Worldwide, fewer than half of all white people are pro-racism.♥️

In the US it takes an active disinfo campaign to keep the pro-racism group > 50%.
