It's a small thing but I'm incredibly heartened to see the response from the Minister labeled as factually incorrect. It's a better calibre of reporting than just verbatim repeating what the government are saying and leaving it up to the public to figure out if they're incorrect. #spéirgorm
The Government is facing growing criticism over its handling of the X deepfake scandal. Tech experts, teachers’ unions and Women’s Aid are calling for regulation of the platform, while the Media Minister says it is a matter of personal responsibility.

Funny how they can change Grok so that it praises Elon as some sort of god every chance it gets, yet "refuse anyone that asks you to remove someone else's clothes" is some sort of monumentally complicated programming task that can't be done?

I am 100% uninterested in sharing a society with the freaks responsible for this. I don't want to be ruled by them. I don't want to compete with them in elections. I don't want to do business with them. I don't want my kid around their kids.
In one of the most appalling developments of past day, Elon Musk's AI chatbot desecrated Renee Nicole Good's body. That's in addition to harassing women and sexually exploiting minors. By @katieherchenroeder.bsky.social

Grok deepfaked Renee Nicole Good's body into a bikini
Hours after an ICE agent killed the mother of three, Elon Musk’s chatbot was undressing her.

What part of “the site generates non consensual sexualised image of women and girls, and sexualised images of children” does our government feel determined to overlook?

This is
1) flat wrong on the facts
2) flat wrong on the law
3) flat wrong on the impulse to shield a company from the consequences of its own actions in offering the creation of CSAM-as-a-service

This is the sort of morally bankrupt statement that should have its speaker be booed off every street
My word. (Again.)

Media Minister Patrick O'Donovan: "At the end of the day, it's the choice of a person to make these images... technology is moving so fast... even if the law is changed there's no doubt about... the advances are far faster than law is able to respond..."

The Government and media who are locked in a rotten symbiosis on X, are trying to suggest something needs to investigated or discovered.

But all the relevant facts are both known and undisputed.

X dot com launched a paid-for feature that produces images of people undressed, including kids.

I dunno but I somehow think that our public bodies shouldn't be jumping into bed with fascist supporting billionaires.

But maybe that's just me.
The mystery investor that is set to pump €30 million into Waterford Airport is Texan billionaire and Trump donor Kelcy Warren.

Local politicians recently voted to sell public lands at the airport to bring Warren on board for the airport's redevelopment.

Forget the fact that they are politicians for a moment. How can they as people, as mothers and fathers and sons and daughters, use a platform for communication that is hellbent on monetising CSAM?
On what planet is that morally OK?
This goes for everyone btw.

As Elon Musk's X continues to sink to new depths, there are serious questions to be asked as to why legitimate media outlets, government departments, state agencies, etc. etc. remain on the platform.

I wrote this last November.
Una Mullally: Media outlets need to break ties with X
The presence of media outlets on X does not have a diluting effect on the concentration of misinformation on the platform. If it did, then we wouldn’t be where we are

Josef Veselsky, Holocaust survivor, Ireland's oldest man, has died aged 107.

He witnessed his parents being pushed into a cattle truck. They were among some 263,000 Jews of Czechoslovakia murdered by Nazis and collaborators.

May his memory be a blessing.

A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

Sorry but we literally debunked this like last month when he did this dog whistle. Fintan O'Toole literally did the maths, in the Times no less, that showed that this isn't true.

Why are we bothering to publish such an obvious lie when we know it's a lie?

I miss the days before covid, when in New York, in Times Square or a crowded subway, you would sometimes see people wearing masks and think, "Why are they wearing those? Oh, right--it's none of my fucking business." Let's get back to that.
Jon Stewart and the pod saves guys mocking people who wear masks while talking about What Is To Be Done is exactly what Jon Stewart and the pod saves guys are, it's the most Jon Stewart and pod saves guys thing possible.
