The EU has just made sure its biggest bargaining chip in the negotiations over Ukraine's future is no longer subject to national vetos. And that is even true independently of the fate of the reparations loan because now a qualified majority is required to unblock the funds again. Well done.
🚨 Big news: EU countries have approved the long-term immobilisation of the Russian Central Bank under Article 122, which requires only a qualified majority.

This is a key element of the reparations loan.

Czech President Pavel warns: “If Putin wins in Ukraine, we all lose.” He compared secret U.S.-Russia talks on territorial concessions to the 1938 Munich Agreement, calling them dangerously familiar. Letting Russia emerge victorious from this war, he stressed, would be a defeat for all of Europe.

After Elon Musk lashed out at the EU, calling for its dissolution and accusing the Commission of strangling Europe with bureaucracy, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski fired back: “Go to Mars. There’s no censorship on Nazi salutes there.”

I am more than uncomfortable with this idea of “security guarantees” for Ukraine after a peace agreement (which will not happen).
Security guarantees must be enforced now, by any means necessary, to save lives and enable Ukraine to win the war.
Why always wait until a very distant tomorrow ?

The Trump National Security Strategy is a deeply unserious document—befitting an unserious president. But it is no less dangerous for that. My take: open.substack.com/pub/ivodaald...
Trump's Unserious — But Dangerous — National Security Strategy
Trump's National Security Strategy conveys a flawed, incoherent, and deeply dangerous view of the world and America's role in it. America's allies will shudder; its enemies will rejoice.

The US ‘National Security Strategy’ (!) now effectively advocates for the overthrow of European liberal democracy in favour of ethno-national right wing populism. As does Russia.

The US is neither partner nor ally. It is an adversary attacking Europe economically, politically, and diplomatically.
