A Disease-Carrying Mosquito Has Landed in the Rocky Mountains Where It Historically Couldn’t Survive - Inside Climate News
The Aedes aegypti mosquito that can carry dengue was thought to be too reliant on a hot and wet climate to survive in the Mountain West. But now, a population is thriving in Western Colorado.

Interesting and important.
Anecdotally, I have also noted that folks haven't been pushing for politicians and electeds to address it.
It's a "kitchen table issue" in my own house, Democrats.

The Post (me and @kcrowebasspro.bsky.social) analyzed the social media posts and appearances of prominent politicians across the country.
We found that no one is talking about climate change anymore. In 2025, mentions are 60% lower than in 2024.

This weekend, USDA sent letters to states and DOJ submitted filings in court threatening states that fully funded SNAP benefits for November with penalties if the states don’t listen to USDA and “undo” the payments.
DOJ says full SNAP payments were "unauthorized," as USDA directs states to "undo" them

This week Democratic voters pulled off a miracle. (Again.). What do we get, immediately? First Cornell capitulates. Now Schumer & Co. appear about to.
The problem isn’t us, it’s them.
The problem isn’t us, it’s them.
This is part of the tragedy of a surrender now. It invites more pain and suffering by emboldening the regime. Why should they listen to a weak opposition?
Schumer and the Dems are about to teach Trump the lesson that they’ll cave whenever he abuses power to sufficiently hurt people.

Since its founding in the early 20th century, the U.S. Border Patrol has operated with near-complete impunity, arguably serving as the most politicized and abusive branch of federal law enforcement — even more so than the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover.

Fascist movements are characterized by a disregard for the rule of law.
This is a core feature of their ideology: Create chaos and then use a perverted "law and order" rhetoric to justify increasingly repressive actions to "restore" order.

The individual exists only insofar as their interests align with the State—which IS the dictator. Liberal concepts of individual rights are condemned as selfish & divisive, as hindrances to the Nation's Will, and are systematically dismantled. (Again, the "Nation's Will" IS the dictator's word)

Creating chaos? All according to plan.
This is an absolutely insane administrative process. Within the space of a week, states were told by judges/White House
*no SNAP benefits
*half benefits
*full benefits
*pause provision of benefits.
Result is chaos, uncertainty, and uneven access to benefits depending on where people live.

NEW: The Trump admin told states it must immediately "undo" the work to provide full food stamp benefits, or face penalties. The feds sent this in a late-night memo, only adding to the chaos and confusion around SNAP. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/b...

Just got the best out-of-office message I've ever seen from a fellow academic:
"I am currently away on leave. If this is an emergency... well, I doubt it. What could possibly be an emergency in my line of work?"
