Bari Weiss is the logical endpoint of corporate media. This is what happens when people who hate journalism are in charge of it. The only way journalism works is when it’s independent from the power it’s supposed to hold to account, which means ownership can’t have anything to do with those in power

Expect a "revolt" among 60 Minutes staff over Bari Weiss pulling the CECOT segment at the last minute, one network insider told me.

Another CBS News reporter added that a Rubicon had been crossed with this decision, which 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi called "political" and not editorial.

We all knew this was coming when Larry Ellison took charge and Bari Weiss was installed to lead CBS News. Now it’s officially here and there is no going back for CBS unless ir releases the original version of the program ir was supposed to show tonight.
Here’s a gift link to this stunner Washpost story, quoting the 60 Minutes correspondent on the CECOT story, who accuses Bari Weiss of spiking the piece all because the Trump Administration wouldn’t comment.

“Government silence is a statement, not a VETO.”

‘60 Minutes’ correspondent says CBS’s Bari Weiss abruptly pulled segment on Trump deportations
CBS News pulled a ‘60 Minutes’ segment about a prison in El Salvador one day before it was set to air because the Trump administration declined to participate.

Winter Solstice hitting a bit hard with the dark and all? #ArtAdventCalendar has you covered
For #ArtAdventCalendar Day 21 our winter solstice: This is a linocut print with collaged Japanese washi papers of a procession of Kolędnicy, or Kolęda carollers through the woods to honour the sun at Winter Solstice. The tradition, also known as Koliada or kolędowanie, dates to pre-Christian times 🧵

The GOP should be confronted relentlessly with how they’re tearing down science. Project 2025 is the underlying cause of all this, and it’s the work of nationalist religious zealots.

Deputy AG Todd Blanche says the transfer of child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell to a nicer prison where she gets custom meals and a comfort puppy was "a Bureau of Prisons security issue" that he won't discuss.
The transfer is obviously part of the Trump-Epstein cover-up.
WELKER: Why was Ghislaine Maxwell moved just days after you interviewed her?

BLANCHE: That's a Bureau of Prisons security issue that I will not talk about

WELKER: Did you have anything to do with it?

BLANCHE: I am responsible for the Bureau of Prisons, so every decision they make lands on my desk

Tulsi Gabbard was an open Putin sympathizer (Assad sympathizer too) for years before Trump and the GOP Senate put her in charge of the US intel community.

Her apparent eagerness to push Russian govt propaganda, including some that’s transparently absurd, is not incidental. It’s why she got the job.
Hey is it good when the DNI repeats Russian talking points?

Fun fact: It’s easy to keep premiums low when you only have to insure healthy people.
LANKFORD: In 2010, before Obamacare kicked in, the normal healthcare premium was $215.

HUNT: Right. But insurance companies could refuse to cover you for a preexisting condition

LANKFORD: That's true.

As a court observer in Los Angeles who's accompanied folks to/from immigration court, I appreciated Hunter's humane reporting. The fear and suffering imposed on people simply seeking a better life is evil. Bearing witness and assisting those at risk is a small thing I can do. Read the series.

It is utterly catastrophic that RFK Jr. plans to end CDC recommendations for most childhood vaccines.

It’s a betrayal of science, ethics, compassion, and the people of the United States.

And it was also a specific goal of Project 2025 (page 254).

Boycott Meta to the extent possible. I know there are necessary exceptions, but seriously, Zuckerberg needs damaging.
The Guardian set up 24 new, blank accounts on Facebook and Instagram. They gave generic male names and set the age at 24. And all they did was watch the feeds. No relationships. No posting. No replies. No likes. No clicking on ads. NOTHING.

The feeds turned hideously misogynistic within weeks.

The remarkably well-preserved York Helmet, dated AD 770-775, is one of only six surviving helmets from Anglo-Saxon Britain. A Latin inscription bears the name ‘Oshere’. Discovered by a digger operator in York in 1982. Iron and copper-alloy.

Dear Santa - I've been a good boy this year (mostly) and think I deserve a replica of this gorgeous 4th c. CE cobalt blue glass head flask.

Remarkable to see the typical Late Roman/Byzantine features - large almond shaped eyes and flowing locks of hair - rendered in glass. 🏺
