I don’t buy this “trump voters don’t know what they voted for and will be upset when they find out” stuff. They know. They like it. And when it makes their life worse they’ll blame another scapegoat

I do understand the need to pretend that such a large number of one’s compatriots aren’t evil

Cook 3 shallots and 2 serranos until soft then put in curry paste ginger and lemongrass and let that sweat a few minutes before dumping in stock and fish sauce and letting that simmer for an hour before adding lime juice, coconut milk mushrooms and a protein of your choice and call me in the morning

I think if you’re a young person (or an older person frankly) considering some kind of creative project, the state of the world is more or less “fuck it we ball” like, you might as well

I like dogs better than people, so I’m biased, but people who hurt dogs should have their eyes gouged out of their skull. I’ll forgive MV the instant that happens

Another data point for why it’s good that I’m not in charge

Americans keep being surprised by this but it is a pretty standard combination of beliefs among European radical right politicians, there's even a whole literature on "welfare chauvinism", a term coined to explain the appeal of the radical right in Nordic countries
After years of talking to Trump supporters my view of them has become very simple: They want socialist, even sometimes progressive reforms but they want them from someone who makes those reforms feel powerful and masculine and they want to make sure the people they don't like don't benefit from them

Nobody - not one person - is offering a vision of the world where vigilantes are free to kill people they believe are doing harm. On the other hand, the reality of our world is that people like Brian Thompson are free to kill innocent people for the crime of being poor.
I don't think it is possible to construct a limiting principle around "people who do great harm should be assassinated" and it's definitely impossible to build a consensus around one -- opens the door to killing politicians, journalists, doctors providing abortions or trans health care, etc.

tl;dr
Interstellar is about spaceflight. Gravity is about biology.

(Not biology so much in the field of study sense, but more as an exploration of what it means to be a being that knows about both ontogeny and phylogeny)

I think a big part of the reason no one understood Gravity is because it unfortunately came out around the same time as Interstellar, and so people incorrectly thought it was about space.

The other reason is that people are, to a large extent, philistines.

OK. That’s it. This is a Gravity vs Interstellar account now.

they lost bc disengaged voters bought gop bullshit and its pretty obvious this was the payoff of a generational effort on the right to work the refs in media…
