All if this. The book is more explicit about the power dynamics, but the show doesn't shy away from them. And power dynamics come up a lot in MM romance! And not just between the male LIs. Women in these stories are also impacted by power dynamics, with the LIs and with others.
As someone with a PhD in yaoi studies I do think this has been one of the better articles about the concept of the Hockey Fujo but I will continue feeding that fed horse and saying that I do not buy it at all that the popularity of m/m romance about women is about equality in relationship.
I spoke to women (and one man) about what they find so hot about Heated Rivalry.

I will stop talking about Heated Rivalry, but one of the reasons it has become such a big thing is this is the way Hollywood is supposed to work! Two actors working as waiters who get a shot and made the most of it and now are going to be stars! It feels like that never happens anymore.
