I'm not one for false optimism. But what I witnessed today in Minneapolis was tremendous, both in scale and exuberance. It was a stunning answer to the federal assault on Minnesota, a show of solidarity that gives us something to hold on to during times that are unforgiving.
“Everybody Showed Up”: Stunning Crowds at Minnesota Day of Strike and Shutdown Against ICE
Extreme cold didn't stop the shutdown on Friday as some 100 faith leaders were arrested, residents stayed home from work, and an estimated 50,000 or more marched through downtown Minneapolis.

Saint Paul schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for optional online learning.

I’ve seen schools close for snow, for pandemic, for natural disaster. I’ve never seen schools close because of threat from our own government.

Pro tip: if your Mayor or your City Council are talking tough about ICE, demand that they take steps to limit local cops from sharing surveillance data with ICE.

If they don't, they're full of shit.

They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.

Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.

Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.

Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.

A very long and important THREAD -

The real reason the US is invading Venezuela goes back to a deal Henry Kissinger made with Saudi Arabia in 1974.

And I'm going to explain why this is actually about the SURVIVAL of the US dollar itself.

Not drugs. Not terrorism. Not "democracy." 1/

This is your protest season reminder that American communist party (ACP) is a literal red brown alliance, fascist organization, pretending to be communist.
American Communist Party, a far-right front group, was spotted in Humboldt Park in Chicago chanting “who’s country, our country.” They appear to be leaving. 1/3

really astounding abdication from the guys who should be firmly anti polio
Maddening read: major healthcare lobbying groups have stayed silent on RFK Jr.'s nom.
-American Medical Assoc.
-Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America "drug lobby once seen as all-powerful in Washington"
-American Academy of Pediatrics (aka the drs. who do child vaccinations)

Why the health care industry is letting RFK Jr. cruise to confirmation
From drugmakers to doctors, few health care groups are asking senators to block Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from becoming HHS secretary.

I am the richest man in the world. I’m here to fix your government inefficiency by reallocating all federal spending to contracts with my companies
This is so incredibly, goofily stupid—a slapstick level of dumbass, self-defeating, wasteful procurement even if it’s somehow not as corrupt as it looks—but I suspect absolutely no one is going to prevent it from happening. What an embarrassment. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/u...

it has been said before but one problem is that when some people say 'the economy' they're talking about poor people affording food and housing, & when some other people say 'the economy' they're referring to a chart of how happy rich people are

the reason why this era of fascism is ultimately destined for collapse is that they’re shortsighted in that you cannot use hatred and reactionary beliefs for sustained power and china realizes this, which is why they’ve been easing up on previous anti-LGBTQ sentiments

i have been following politics for 15 years, started when i was 14, because i was a transgender bisexual teen in a world where christians went on every news channel using the bible to explain why we don’t deserve rights or respect. not much has changed so i will continue to hyperfix about politics
I'm sympathetic to people who "Don't want to hear about politics all the time" but unfortunately "politics" for the average person will probably get much less abstract in the near term. It's going to get harder to get through a day without going "Wait it's legal for them to do that?"
