Future generations will have a hard time believing that the term "trumped-up charges" was not coined in reference to, and actually predates, the Trump regime.
NEWS: The Trump regime has arrested Don Lemon in its latest crackdown on journalism after he reported from inside a church protest in Minnesota—despite a magistrate judge previously rejecting the case against him as unsupported by evidence.

I really enjoy Star Trek Online. It's vastly customisable, there's a lot of space barbie and you can make workable builds with very little investment.

You only really need to do about 200K dps at the hardest level. If you ask for advice, it comes from people who think 1M dps is basic.
There was a genesis to this phenomenon I've never seen spoken about.

8-10 years ago I used to be in a lot of online hobby spaces. They had long had a 'optimisation culture' where a many folk didn't do stuff guided by enjoyment, but by following an 'optimal' path....

Would Grenfell have happened if it was a commonhold block of flats? And how quickly would the facade changes have gone through across the country.

Bugger, I don't have the disposable income for a commission.

Also don't know what Waffle would be either.

This in general for me- Although I am torn when it's someone who's work I really like. Because what do you mean it's changing. (but I am genuinely happy for them, even if it means it's no longer for me)
I’ve reached a point as a music fan where I deeply admire artists who try something new, even if it isn’t to my taste. Imagine spending your life defined by who you thought you were at 23.

And the pattern recognition and eagerness to avoid unnecessary problems gets you labelled as uncooperative, when you're actively being a team player
I don't think it's ever been harder for people with mental health conditions and neurodivergent people to be in work*, because work has become such a micromanaged, target-focused, constantly dishonest nightmare, while life outside work is also terrible

So, @mrjamesob.bsky.social has given up on ever getting back on the BBC then... And I suspect Keith is spending the whole show with his fonger hovering over the dump button.

You're asking for rationale for the behaviour of someone who is so divorced from reality that he arguably isn't living in the same universe as us. @mrjamesob.bsky.social

Libraries are our default "if we get separated" location for the kids. It's safe, there's wifi to communicate and let us know. There's books and peace. It's the ultimate bolthole.
Also crucially we get paid when libraries buy our books! There is nothing to be sorry about ever in borrowing a fave author’s books from a library! It is one of the few “everybody wins” situations in life!
Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

It's not time to hit back, but it is time to adopt a defensive posture. @mrjamesob.bsky.social.

He'll probably take that as an attack, but we should be able to defend those lines while he mobilises.

One question that would have been good for mystery hour in happier times @mrjamesob.bsky.social -

Why do we use dollars to buy oil, and what would happen if we switched to the euro?

Looks like I'm adding more to my self hosting journey... well, kinda. Giving up on overly complicated systems that nobody (not even me) uses and paring back to "household solutions" instead of cool shit.

I've found a nice cocktail app/db/shopping list thing. So starting there.

This one looks up your particular intersection of weird and data

@schreiberland.bsky.social
Layers here now:

• Bigfoot sightings
• UFOs
• reported hauntings
• meteorites
• earthquakes
• plane crashes
• volcanoes
• superfund sites

All in one place! I am not a believer in the esoteric ones, and I’m sorry to say I have found no nexus between the worlds, but it’s fun to play with

There tried changing the name of a pub near me. The bus stop still used the old name, the locals still used the old name. Directions given... yup the old name.

They eventually gave up and reverted.
one of my sort of recurring Themes that I care about in history is: when we change the name of a place (a room, a street, a house, a website) is how long people do the "Gamma, formerly known as Delta" thing. it varies a lot and is really interesting to me
It's quite funny that my institution has decided to renumber all its rooms lately, but doesn't give out a nice concordance upon doing so. So if you've written down an old-style room number, it's basically impossible to work out what that would be now.

You don't even have to play it. It's quite a good read in itself.
System matters in TTRPGs. For example, if you buy DIE RPG, I make money, which definitely matters.
