if i were a pro-trump financial type i might view the destruction of reliable government data with the kind of anger and apprehension that might lead me to reevaluate my politics, but then if i’m a financial guy throwing my weight behind strongman rule, i’m already too stupid to breathe

Sent to who knows where, for who knows how long.

The Epstein birthday card is now public. (Trump can continue to pretend it's not real, but that's not the point.)

The point: If the card were the worst thing for Trump in the files, why wouldn't Trump now make the Epstein files public?

Conclusion: There are worse things for Trump in the files.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

if you can't find joy in PS5s, cheeseburgers, performance fabrics, birth control, & 24 hour gyms, you're not going to find it in horseshoes, moonshine, malaria, tent revivals, & chicken fricassee, even if it comes with the "delight" of slavery
I'd say the end of human slavery was "worth it," but what the fuck do I know?

What Frederick Douglass said of slaveholders applies to today’s authoritarians.

“For this cause they hate free society, free schools, free states, free speech, the freedom asserted in the declaration of independence, and guaranteed in the constitution.”

Every authoritarian movement attracts wackos obsessed with various crackpot theories, because the social psychology of kooky conspiracism is adjacent to that of authoritarianism.

But the bizarre tangents shouldn’t obscure the core threat: They fear and hate free men and women.

‘Vote shaming’ is/was the dumbest concept ever. The only reason I know how you voted is because you fuckin’ told me, yeah of course I’m going to form judgements based on that. If you didn’t want me to do that shouldn’t have told people! You made a statement to get a reaction and you’re getting it.

"Alligator Alcatraz" is wrong and media should not use it. It's propaganda. Alcatraz held people convicted of crimes, particularly violent crimes.

The Florida camp holds people *not* convicted of any crime. If they had been, they'd be in prison elsewhere.

The site is a textbook concentration camp.
I know the media is going to unthinkingly start using “Alligator Alcatraz,” but it’s disgusting and sadistic and I intend to call it what it is, a fucking concentration camp, and fuck those people who are doing this and giving it a cutesy name.

To be clear, this is what actual antisemitism looks like.
Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner says she "100%" questions the faith of Jewish politicians who endorse Zohran Mamdani.

"The same way I would question Chuck Schumer, who works against the interests of his own people at times for the politics."

Emily Compagno then accuses Mamdani of Holocaust denial!

Trump's political super-power is that he appears to many people as a truth teller. He is, of course, someone who lies all of the time...but the important thing is that he does not APPEAR to be lying because Trump's narcissism is such that he authentically believes whatever he's saying in the moment.
