One of the most timely and terrific books i’ve read this year was Greg Grandin’s America, América. It’s most haunting part was its painfully incisive assessment of the modern US in its final pages

Anyways just like you shouldn’t blame writers and editors at GMG for spanfeller be informed before you blame conde writers and editors. they’re doing largely excellent work and shouldnt be the target of anyone’s outrage.

this condé nast thing, from what’s been reported, reminds me of when Spanfeller fired Barry because the whole union was waiting in the hallways before a big meeting. reflexive terminations are never a wise move when dealing with union activity. it just makes the upset workers furious.
New: Conde Nast fired four employees who were among a group that confronted the company's head of human resources on Wednesday over the decision to fold Teen Vogue into Vogue/recent cuts. Employees who were fired included journalists from the New Yorker, Wired, and Bon Appétit.

Me: I’m gonna watch that new show where Garfield gets assassinated!

Mom: (horrified) who would kill a cartoon cat?

I moved to Texas from New York last month and I’m surprised at what I find myself longing for. I miss my friends and good Asian grocery stores that don’t require 40 mile drives. the parks and theater. the loss of top bars too. yet not the loss of fine dining or NYC museums
but god man i miss weed.

Trump carries a print out of a tweet in his coat pocket and pulled it out to show Norah O‘Donnell. that really happened

I’m absolutely rooting for 60 Minutes as it reckons with major changes in leadership beyond its control. and it’s easy to have hope when you watch the absolutely incredible Trump interview. surreal. incisive. beautifully produced and edited. youtu.be/wQPTUa8vxRU?...

the state party loves to go on and on about states rights and demanding the feds stay out of Texas business and reminding everyone Texas can leave the union/create additional states. but jumps at the chance to be under ICE’s boot.

Another property on point for this moment is Warrior (HBOMax), great action drama that is ALSO about the pitting of working classes of all races against each other by 19th cent gilded age plutocrats, plus riots & racism that led to Chinese Exclusion Act. Historically whipsmart & hugely relevant IMO
once again watching marty's GANGS OF NEW YORK, a movie whose analysis of "america for americans" reactionary politics has only grown more cogent every year since 2002

help your local food banks y'all. donate money. donate time. if you’re feeling powerless seek to help others worse off then yourself.
Yesterday: Feeding Texas estimates that its 20 member banks have lost a total of $57.6 million in federal funding cuts, and that’s only in immediate canceled funding. But this could actually be on the low end of the potential impact range.
Trump’s Federal Cuts Are Hitting Texas Food Banks Hard
Food pantries in the Lone Star State have lost over $50 million in funding this year, with more projected cuts to come.

If, as Trump’s comments suggest, he’s being asked to take the MOCA cognitive assessment and get an MRI, Americans should definitely know! Cognitive declines and nukes do not mix!
Trump: "They have Jasmine Crockett -- a low IQ person. AOC is low IQ. Have her pass the exams I decided to take when I was at Walter Reed. They're cognitive tests. Let AOC go against Trump. Let Jasmine go against Trump. The first couple questions are easy -- a tiger, an elephant, a giraffe ... "

been spending the weekend gathering stuff for a resell shop that funds a local food pantry. find the food pantries in your area and support them with donations. they and the people who rely on them desperately need it right now.

with an elderly family member now on both a heart monitor and cgm I am getting a first hand look at the state of user interface design in patient focused med tech and YIKES.
CGMs are definitely much better than heart monitors but there’s so much work to do.

Free headline: President Trump Can’t Explain Pardoning Binance Fraudster Founder

legit absurd he and Johnson just keep getting away with feigning ignorance for any awful thing they and their party do.
COLLINS: Today you pardoned the founded of Binance. Can you explain why you did that?

TRUMP: Which one was that?

COLLINS: The founder of Binance

TRUMP: I believe we're talking about the same person, because I do pardon a lot of people. I don't know. He was recommended by a lot of people.

the situation is that we came online as a truly global species in the past 20 years, which challenges our concepts of ourselves as important, so we are greedily seeking out performances of authenticity.

a lot of people dunking on ranchers for voting for this dude but 1) lots of ranchers didn’t vote for him and 2) if they import live cattle that is definitely how you get foot and mouth disease in the US. With the screwworm march forward additional health issues for cattle would be very bad.

my mom worked for the state of Texas for decades and we were not allowed to email her work account for any reason because it would be public record due to her role.

if a bunch of kids could understand that how can the governor of the state not?

This is perhaps the most useful feature from this search engine for privacy-conscious folks.
I can cut out centralized social media simply by rewriting search result URLs.
