He/him. Originally from the Finger Lakes, moved to the Canadian prairie. Not because it rhymes with my name, but I don't mind that. Lawyer in two countries, competent adult in neither.
Best Thanksgiving movie: The Lion in Winter. Sure, it takes place at Christmas, but it will make your family breakdown seem SO minor in comparison.

Fun fact: in Arabic, bitumen was called mūmiyā, which is the origin of our word "mummy" since it was often used in Egyptian embalming.

This is all a way of proclaiming that Canada wants to create a Mummy Pipeline.
The MOU states a new “bitumen pipeline to Asian markets” is a priority for Canada, and that if a new pipeline is ultimately approved under the Building Canada Act, the federal government will exempt it from the oil tanker moratorium.
BREAKING: Alberta gets its way in deal with Ottawa
A newly signed memorandum of understanding gives Alberta almost its entire list of demands, from the removal of regulations to the fast-tracking of a pipeline.

This is really the issue for me with "USian." I have no issue with it on theoretical or linguistic grounds, but the way I usually see it used in context is problematic.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: free speech absolutism
I guess it’s a good thing we were so concerned about the right to speak our opinions being outlawed by a ruling class that we guaranteed it by making it the very first amendment in our Bill of Rights when we formed the country.

There's a famous anecdote about John Coltrane, where he said to Miles Davis "I'm sorry I play so long, but I just have so many ideas" and Miles replied "Take the horn out of your mouth." I feel like this is somehow applicable to Nolan, especially as to Tenet.
it might be the most Nolan movie ever in that it's got the most insanely cool set pieces and aura moments in film but the actual plot and characters are made of tissue paper

As an old dude who still plays in rock bands, I naturally love the Dead. But also, as a child, my grandmother gifted me a small, soft leather-bound copy of Fitzgerald's Rubáiyát. While I now know how inauthentic it is, it is still a work near and dear to my heart.

Both of these are great books, but I found "Oathbreakers" had the kind of cinematic sweep that allows me to recommend it to even the (few) non-history nerds in my life.
And our @lollardfish.bsky.social recent OATHBREAKERS - this one about a medieval empire that devolves into brutal bloodshed between brothers when elites abandon the public good and only care about enriching themselves

When I first moved to Canada, I absolutely binged Murdoch Mysteries, and I LOVE the arc of the show. It sort of starts out as "mostly serious period piece" and quickly turns into "I'm inventing maglev trains and solving crimes with H.P. Lovecraft."
best we've got right now is Murdoch Mysteries, a detective show set in late 1800's Toronto, where the lead characters regularly invent modern technology by accident. Detective Murdoch created the Roomba. Tatiana Maslany's brother plays a gay jewish cop. It's incredible.

I am not sure who is representing Open AI here, but I know they have used Wachtell, MoFo, etc. in the past. This strikes me as a biglaw kind of oddity: you must always make all available arguments no matter what. My experience of biglaw was not one of nuance.
Additionally, OpenAI argues its not liable because Raine, by using ChatGPT for self-harm, broke its terms of service

Olivia Nuzzi wrote an entire story based on unnamed sources about Biden's decline, reinvigorating calls for him to leave the race -- and the whole time, she was working on RFK Jr.'s behalf, according to her ex-fiance. newrepublic.com/article/2035...

More than her fiancé, or fellow female journalists, the public will pay the price for these misdeeds. RFK Jr. will see to that.

1. Pretty.
2. Plural is “man of warS” because one colony is a “man of war”
3. Saline is better than urine.
Just don't confuse these blue meanies with "baby jellies."

To be clear Lizza’s story is that Nuzzi sat on important matters of national significance for personal benefit and he’s sat on these details until he could personally benefit.

All of DC media needs to be thrown into the sea. Anyone who defends these people is a goddamn clown.

Wow. This is the first personnel case I can recall that hasn't gone all "unitary executive." At least yet.
BREAKING: SCOTUS will not grant the Trump administration’s request to allow it to fire Shira Perlmutter, the director of the Copyright Office, at this time. It puts off any decision while the court is considering the other two firings cases. Perlmutter stays in office during that time.
