Dolly is a saint, but she'd probably deny it if I said it to her face.
After >1000 homes were destroyed by fire, half a year of basic income provided by Dolly Parton resulted in a faster recovery. Recipients even ended up better prepared for future disasters than the average American. Cash was seen as >2x more helpful than donated items.

i think the process for getting into certain fields (like medicine) punishes people who actually have the skills needed to be successful in that field

I was once taking a group of visiting Spanish students on a trip to London. We were on the Underground and as we came to our stop, I barked, "Right, when the train stops, EVERYONE OFF AND LINE UP AGAINST THE WALL"
As I was counting heads, I found two stunned tourists had also done as they were told.
Please quote this with stories of your minor interactions with non-celebrities, e.g. “I once accidentally bumped into a man in the Wellingborough branch of Holland & Barrett”

as I often say: imagine how much the 20th-best drummer in your city makes, and then compare that to what the 200th-best marketing manager makes
The average professional artist (and I’m talking getting paid literally anything for their art) has a skill set that is rarer, harder to do, and that takes longer to master than any middle management type you’ve ever met, but those do-nothing dipshits can make six figures with no one getting upset.
"You shouldn't make art for the money" buddy I'll take it one step further and say we shouldn't have to labor for capital at all but in the meantime pay an artist

I don't like dogs and I don't like children. I am aware that this makes me a bit weird. I don't expect to live in a child free or a dog free world but sometimes I am surprised by how willing parents and dog owners are to take their children/pets everywhere with them. Even places they shouldn't be.

Hope everyone had a nice, suspicious-death-free Christmas Day. Thanks to the supreme efforts of our tiny team, episode five - Rollercoaster - will be out at the usual time. We're off to the funeral hoping to talk to several persons of interest.

Christmassy transport is always about a century behind the norm. one horse open sleighs in the mid-19th century, steam trains in the mid-to-late 20th century. as such we can confidently predict that by the year 2100 Santa Claus will be delivering presents in a Ford Focus

Everyone should get a UBI then if they want extra they can work as much as they feel like. Our society is so obsessed with work we keep inventing bullshit jobs, that no one wants or is needed.

SNOWMAN: oi. your dad still got his original teeth?

BOY: uh...no?

SNOWMAN: great. I'm gonna go wear your dad's teeth and put on your mum's make up while they're sleeping, that's cool right

GenAI gives us the perfect justification why we need UBI and UHC. Consider focusing some of your rage that direction. UBI/UHC would fix a lot of the inequities plaguing genre.

Give us universal healthcare, then release the Epstein files unredacted. We need something to read while we catch up on doctor appts.
Start universal basic income period.
Then mind your own fucking business about rainbow identities.

The reasons for universal basic income go back well before technological concerns and are more numerous than just that one reason.

The fact that people hadn't heard of it before is frankly part of it. Some people have always wanted the idea to stop being talked about.

A new and deeper analysis of Finland's basic income experiment has found that poor mental health was 33% lower (8 points) in the basic income group, whose only difference from the control group was UNCONDITIONALITY. Both groups got the same amount of monthly cash.
